I have been using retinol and its really done a number on the skin around my eyes. The skin has become really dry and red and swollen. I've stopped using the retinol a week ago but I've had no relief the moisturizer I'm using seems to be making it worse please help.

Ouch! I don't know what moisturizer you are using now but it should be one that is non-active. Meaning its super basic with no treatment ingredients. If you have any coconut oil on hand apply a light application on the affected areas. Coconut oil contains antibacterial properties which is beneficial for healing. And were you using this retinol everyday?

The skin around the eyes is much thinner then the rest making it more sensitive. you need a gentle moisturizer and cleanser. you could use argan oil its very hydrating. also look for moisturizers containg feverfew aveeno has one called ultra calming they discontinued the nighttime one so you would have to use the spf version. I overdid it once w cleansers (given to me my a derm) that literally burned my skin it really helped. try cetafil sp? cleanser its very gentle

Coconut oil can be purchased at any healthy food store. Cold-pressed organic is best.

I use argan oil too and you have to work up to using retinol daily and only use retinol eye cream around your eyes the amount of retinol in the face serum is way stronger I use it now but thats after years of my skin being use to it retinol causes a rapid cell turnover an that causes a peeling of the skin if your new to it,and some people can only use it 3 times a week and that is fine it's about the prolonged use of it not the amount so cut your days down an stay away from your eye area and the corners of your nose and your cleanser should have no AHA in it Shelley , Danny and I have worked up to layering products it takes time for your skin to adjust.

That's right. taken me a while to figure out a good routine, its all trial and error and I am still learning. After a lot of research and some very helpful advise (thank you Tracy) finally think I've got it together.

Yep, right on Traci. I only use mine 3 days max and there has been times when I missed a whole week. I still have a ways to go before I reach for that prescription strength.

Remember to use Retinol at night. Retinol and sun does NOT mix, which could be part of why your skin dried out, because it could be a minor sunburn effect. Put it on at night after washing your face, and wash your face in the morning.
