I can't make clothes hun, but I did make some dress curtains and a bed throw for my room. I'm better with furnishingd than clothes :)

I've been sewing my own clothes for a while! I can't read a pattern to save my life though, so I make my own patterns! Pinterest has been a lifesaver, it helped my find amazing blogs with step by step instructions on making a pattern to fit my body! I'll post some pictures of the few things I have with me in a minute!

Go to the classes as that will help you understand measurements and the classes might supply sewing machines my class does :)

Here is the tutorial for the shirt I made! I love the way this one turned out, and it is super comfortable! http://pinterest.com/pin/17944098488375050/
But I've loved www.Cottonandcurls.com for sewing tutorials. She breaks it down and makes it simple, and makes the majority of her own patterns!
I tried this one, and I don't have a picture of it, but it turned out pretty well.Pinning the sides was the worst part. http://pinterest.com/pin/17944098488373156/
These are the links to my pinterest, but if you click on them one further, it will take you to her blog. Sorry for the terrible picture quality of my picture! I have the hardest time getting good pictures of my own clothes!

If you're seriois about wanting to make your own clothes I would suggest investing in a sewing machine, it will take hours to hand stitch something that could be done in mins on a machine

Sara I love that dress! Did you make it from imagination or did you use a pattern available somewhere?

Definitely check out thrift stores for sewing machines, I've seen some for next to nothing at Good Will and Salvation Army!
I love making clothes, but I lost my sewing machine while moving a couple years ago =( I only have a serger right now and I'm waiting to move into a house with my boyfriend before I buy an industrial sewing machine =/
I have an adjustable dress form and I like to "drape" clothes on there or create my own technical patterns from there, much better than following pre-made patterns!
Trial and error and a lot of patience (which you have!) is what's going to help.

Hey Jannie, I'm not sure if you'll ever see this but it was from imagination. I took a 5XL shirt and went at it! Thanks :)
