I use dish soap and olive oil. Soap to disinfect and olive oil to strengthen and preserve the brush hairs. MichellePhan on youtube has an exact recipe video :)

I use sephoras brand for spot cleaning and I use their deep brush cleaner as well. I get the small bottles for like $6 and they last a long time
