Are there any makeup brands that you think are overrated and get way to much hype?
Before I went cruelty free I had 3 different shades of foundation by MAC and when I was about to use it on clients, they refused and said it was either too heavy or it broke them out. Same thing with my skin. I never get acne unless I use MAC foundation, concealer, blush basically anything for your face. Because I assumed everyone really liked mac bedsides me. Is there any other brands that you think aren't worth all the hype, or you just didn't have a good experience with? I'd love to know what you all think. =)

It's not necessarily the hype, some things just don't work on all people. I also didn't have a good experience with MAC foundation, but now I use NARS, which also is high end with lots of hype. As a makeup artist, you're going to have to experiment (which I think is part of the fun...except for breaking out...but you know what I mean haha).

What I mean by hype is a lot of the younger ones refuse to buy anything but mac. Like my boyfriends sister that's all she'll buy and she says it breaks me out. I'm like why are you still buying it then? And she gets upset when she has 100 bucks and wastes it at the mac counter and walks away with like 4 products. I tell her to try Lorac they are really good and Too Faced, but she says no, it's not as good as mac. But she wouldn't know, because that's all she buys. Lol
Exactly you do need to experiment, it is fun, until you get something terrible and you searching for the receipt so you can return it. Ha

Too Faced is about the same price as MAC, as is Urban Decay and Benefit and a lot of other Ulta and Seohora type brands. then we have very high end cosmetics...yikes! I used to work for Chanel and couldn't imagine paying so much for makeup! Just like clothing or shoes, sometimes you just pay for the brand name. I think a lot of cosmetics are VERY over priced and not worth it. But to each their own.

Oh gosh Mia, I totally agree about the "designer" makeup like Chanel or Dior, it's just unbelievably expensive. Maybe it's because I'm a broke college kid, but I can't ever justify spending that much on one product. The most expensive ill go is urban decay or things in that price range, and only if its a really unique product or color (something not easily dupeable)

I just bought MAC. I love the concealer. its the only thing I could get to cover my dark circles. I bought foundation but havent worn it yet. but I love love LOVE the lipstick I have from there. it was tough to spend so much but I think it is worth it. the person barely put any foundation on me when I went there. she said It's going to last a long time for me. I usually wear bb cream.

Going with the overpriced products: Makeup Forever HD Powder. It is 100% silica powder in a little black container, and it costs $36 for less than an ounce! Say what? You can buy a pound of 100% silica powder from a cosmetic ingredient wholesale for cheaper than that! All people are paying for is a label. :/

I agree on the designer prices! I got a sample of Chanel foundation in a magazine and I fell in love with it, but it's $40! I can't justify spending that much on foundation when Revlon will do the same thing! It's ridiculous.
