Without knowing the effects I started using Proactiv about a year ago and it did wonders for my skin. Now that I know what it does to your skin when you stop using it I'm worried about getting off it. Any suggestions on how to stop using it and maintain clear skin?

Some people say your skin has become addicted to the product and will breakout when you stop using it. @sadies @miad.

Thank goodness I don't you proactive! Try not using it one day a week for a month, then two days a week for a month, ect... Slowly stopping will probably help you not break out :)

It's because proactive strips your skin if its oils so if you don't use their whole system twice a day, you get really oily because your body reproduces oil to try to get back to a natural oil level. proactive and other systems do that specifically so your skin becomes addicted to them. I recommend not using salicylic acid or a toner alcohol at all, just using a gentle cleanser with a clarisonic and a good moisturizer, and maybe a spot treatment gel if you need it for awhile.

I slowly got off it...first by skipping a step every few days, and then not do a step all together...repeat...as your doing it start looking for other things that would work (like when I stopped using step 1, I found a different scrub or a different moisturizer when I quit proativ moisturizer). I only quit cause of the cost, it doubled when my daughter had turned 12, lol.

Thanks Anna and Emma! I do use a gentle cleanser with a clarisonic, plus Proactiv cleanser, witch hazel as a toner and a moisturizer. I would just like to get rid of using Proactiv without my skin going crazy.

Your skin changes and hormones go crazy, try tea tree oil from The Body Shop, it's cheaper and more natural and it really works.
