I'm wondering if my routine is too complicated. Here is what I do. I welcome positive feedback and tips.
- Wash w/ Cetaphil DermaControl Oil Control Foam Wash
- Moisturize w/ Cetaphil DermaControl Oil Control Moisturizer SPF 30
- Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector Combination to Oily Skin
- Smashbox Photo Finish Color Correcting Primer
- Tarte Anazonian Clay 12 Hour Foundation
- Rimmel Stay Matte Powder
Follow with all other makeup needed for the day.
I also just received my Urban Decay De-Slick In A Tube today and am trying to figure out where to add this in.
Is this too complicated of a routine? Should I change anything?

Do what you're comfortable with and what you think works for you. =)

I think the garnier has sunscreen... You may not need the cetaphil moisturizer beforehand?

I wondered if the moisturizer and the bb cream were too much. I have issues with oily skin, obviously :) , and am concerned I am making it worse.

I have oily/acne prone skin that has an uneven tone with acne spots and other discoloration that I am not even sure of where it came from or why. Every time I get hot or just touch my face period it gets really red. So that is why I use the color corrector primer and the bb cream. I am trying to get as even a finish as possible.

I have tried just moisturizer and foundation but my makeup just sinks in the pores in most areas and slides off in others. lol.

That's such a subjective question! Are you feeling burnout or bummed out by your routine? If you enjoy your routine and/or the results, go on with your bad self!

I'd try the moisturizer, primer and foundation. Finish with a setting powder or spray.

I also have better results if I let the moisturizer sit a good 3-5 min before going to the next step.

Thank you everyone, for your help! I will consider your suggestions and figure out what might be best.

Maybe only use bb cream not moisturiser as well seeing as bb cream has moisturising properties? Is the de slick a primer? Because you only need one primer :)

I would get rid of the bb cream & add mac fix + at the end.

Sometimes when you use so much oil control products your skin will react and fight against it.Have you tried anti shine primer? And if your foundation is oil free that should be enough to set it.Also try a full coverage foundation like Estee Lauder maximum camouflage coverage.

@ Alicia- the De-Slick is supposed to get rid of the oil and can be worn under your makeup ir apply on top of your makeup on the oily spots. I tried it yesterday when it arrived since my face was pretty shiney. I put a small amount right over my makeup just on the oily spots and it really worked.

Thanks Ashley. I will look up that product. I have heard a lot about Mac but have not tried anything yet.

Thanks Alma. That is what I am afraid of. My skin is usually pretty oily and gets worse the hotter it gets. But right now it seems overly oily and the weather is decent. I wondered if I am trying too hard. This morning I changed things up a little.
I washed my face and used witch hazel toner. I used a small amount of the De-Slick on my nose, chin and forehead. I also used a small amount of primer on the same spots instead of on my whole face. The bb cream I did use on my whole face and followed with my foundation. It is the Tarte Amazonian Clay full coverage 12 hour. So far everything seems ok. Has only been on for about 4 hours. :)

Alma- answers to your other questions:
1. Primer is Smashbox Color Corrector.
2. Was told the foundation was oil free.
Both products I purchased at the same time at Ulta. After explaining my skin concerns to the rep these are the items she recommended I use.

Thanks Alma. And @ Lolli- isn't it just a pain sometimes? Most times as a matter of fact. lol.
I care about my skin way more now than ever before and I know that is part of the problem. I want healthy skin AND to look pretty. I know your routine is what works for you but I doubt myself sometines and need to seek out a little guidance from all the lovely ladies that have gone through similar experiences.

Personally I don't see the need for bb cream, primer and foundation. BB cream is not foundation so I believe girls should pick one or the other. Primer is pretty much in the bb cream. If you really like your routine, the only thing is I'd take out is the primer. Go bb cream then foundation. Again, I don't see the need for both but if that's your preference it's all good :)

Oh also replace the moisturizer with the bb cream as forementioned. I think you'll save more product and it will simplify your routine!!
May 8, 2013
Regina B.
Thank you Megan. I tried that this morning. After cleansing I only used bb cream and the foundation. No additiinsl moisturizer or primer today. I may check with Ulta about returning the primer.
