Make sure you always take your make up off at night. If you leave your mascara on at night, it leaves your lashes more susceptible to breakage and leaves them brittle. Be gentle when you take it off, and use a makeup remover specially made for eyes (I use MAC's Gently Off, but I know Nivea also has one, which is a cheaper alternative!)
Use a bit of petroleum jelly on your lashes at night to condition them. It softens your lashes and moisturizes them so they don't break off. As new lashes grow in, this makes your lashes look thicker. Some people use castor oil on their lashes.
