It makes sense and works, less chemicals, preservatives, ect you put in your body the more natural and healthy you are and your skin will show that your system is clean.

I went vegan about 4 months ago and it was the best decision I have ever made! I lost 15 pounds without even trying, have so much more energy without 5 cups of coffee, feel better rested when I wake up, cholesterol and blood pressure dropped significantly, and I just feel generally soooooo much better! I recommend it to anyone, even if you start by just having "meatless Mondays" or just cutting a lot of animal derived products out of your diet. I guarantee you will not regret it!

@Whitney, I have been on a clean diet for years. The only thing is I am letting go of sweets. Right now I only eat chicken, turkey and fish. Starting in a few days I will only eat one of those meats once a week until I know what types of protien I can eat instead of meat.

Also does that mean to stay away from like sweet potatoe chips and the healthy cookies etc.? I started drinking coconut juice. I have always drank lots of water. some of the natural or organic foods or sweets have lots of sugar in them.

Obviously you want to stay away from sugars and fats, everything in moderation. Try to keep everything plant based, raw if possible. Soy is a good source of protein, but black beans, peas, all sorts of foods. Happy Herbivore website has been a huge help as well.

I don't think of it as an actual diet, but rather just plain ol' healthy eating! Think of it as eating foods that ARE ingredients, not foods that HAVE ingredients. I.e. veggies, fruits, beans, all-natural/grass-fed/unprocessed meats (or you could cut meats out altogether, it's a personal choice), whole grains. Do your cooking/baking from scratch using all-natural ingredients, not from pre-packaged mixes or things you "cook" in the microwave. I grew up eating healthily but I fell out of the habit when I was in college, but now within the past year, I've gotten back on track with eating right. :-) It helps *a lot* to find a produce/health foods market near where you live and do you your grocery shopping there.

Great vegetarian substitutions for meat are nuts, tofu, beans cheese and eggs. They are loaded with protein. :-) Fish as well.

I know a lot of people do not consider eating eggs and fish "vegetarian" but I still consume those items in moderation for the health benefits and to help my skin and hair.

It sometimes is so hard to battle cravings, but a lot of health stores have sweet and indulgent foods that can help that aren't terrible. You should bake your own cookies so you know exactly what is going into them and make smart substitutions like using very dark chocolate or molasses in place of sugar. I eat lots of fruit and that seems to satisfy my sweet tooth.
