I need help! I regret dying my hair black! I tried to bleach a small underneath part of my hair to see if that'd help lighten it so I could get it at least close to my old hair color, it didn't do anything!! does anyone know how to lighten black hair without using bleach? I know its super hard to do but it doesn't hurt to try (:

You can't reliably lighten your hair without bleach.

At a salon, they will be able to lighten it a little but I think it's going to take several stripping and processing sessions that involve bleach to get it back to your normal color.

Go to a salon and get your hair stripped, only option!

No don't strip your hair it does terrible damage to it. I think your best option is playing the waiting game as tough as that may sound :/ buy a clarifier shampoo because that will help wash out the color and make it a bit lighter.

What kind of color did you use? Box or professional? Semi, demi or permanent? Depending what you used that will also determine how easily your stylist can lift it out with minimal damage! invest in a good hair care products for afterwards!

If you just did it then you can try to wash it out with shampoo that's not for color treated hair. I think head and shoulders does that if I'm remembering correctly. There is also a color oops remover at Sally's that I hear works well to remover dye

You should use a color stripper...they sell at Sally's. The only thing is that your hair might be left a weird color, so you might have to use a toner or something to adjust it to where you want. The stripper just prepares your hair to be dyed again, so don't be too shocked. Make sure you have a deep conditioner on hand for after you tone since that stripper is really drying!

Go to a reputable salon. Please...don't try it at home.

I don't wanna strip it cuz I don't want straw hair lol. and I used black box dye multiple times, I'm trying the waiting game and my roots are like 3 inches long its driving me nuts! but I guess my only options are the salon or just wait it out. I heard something about lemon juice, or is that just to make blonde hair lighter??

Maybe the salon could ease you into your old color with highlights or an ombre so that the entire head isn't enduring damage and it would offset any conflict with your new growth as it comes in. A reputable stylist will know what to do to ease the transition.

@Rozberry, sounds perfect I think I just might do that! and @Susie, the last time it was dyed was about 3 months ago. but before that I had been dying it black for like a year.
