Tanning beds are so bad for your skin! I personally think pale skin is very beautiful, but if you're seeking change try Jergen's Natural glow it gives a nice color to people your complexion.

I'm very fair as well, and I've been trying to come up with a way that I could get some more color for the summer. Honestly, tanning is just plain old bad for your skin. ESPECIALLY because you're very fair naturally. The tanning booth is even more damaging than laying out in the sun. If you want to be super nice to your skin, I suggest getting Jergen's gradual self tanner. I've had good experiences using it. If you really, really want to tan my advice is go out in the sun; avoid the booths.

Goodness no! You look like an angel without a tan... You'll be more unique the way you are :) besides, tanning is horrible for you. If you feel like you'll only be confident with some color, do what Giuseppe said :)

Most sunbeds typically emit as many UV rays as the mid-day Mediterranean sun does at the hottest time of year. So yeah, 10 minutes on the sunbeds would be much worse than the sun depending on where you live. Personally I live in the UK so sunbeds are way way more dangerous than the sun here, where as if you lived in a super hot area then the sunbeds would be almost equal to the sun you get outside, I duno if that makes any sense lol.
and Lauren when you tan do you get freckles across your nose? if you do then I wouldnt tan coz it'd make you look younger and I remember your post about how that annoys you lol. Also I duno, I think your skin is like perfect already, don't think a tan would make it look any better lol =]

No. Pale skin is beautiful, don't ruin it. I have scars from tanning beds becausr my skin is so fair, it burned.Learned my lesson the hard way. Besides, why would you want to increase your chance of developing one the most deadly cancers? Especially since you are fair skinned, chances are even higher. It's like smoking if you ask me. If you really want to go darker, get a self manner or get a spray tan. It's just not worth the risk; the ends do not justify the means!

My mum use hire one at home which she regrets dearly as her friend ended up with skin cancer before all her friends did until they relised there skin looked really old. I personally suggest doing you own fake tan or go get a spray tan as I know the feeling of pale skin makes me feel very unconfident especially in summer when you want to wear shorts/skirts or dresses

Plus fake tan is just like a moisturiser :)

Definitely a fake tan if you feel you need it, which you totally don't anyway! I'm not going to even address the premature aging that comes with tanning. This is going to be a long post, but I feel like it might help put some perspective on just how dangerous UV exposure is.
I have had skin cancer twice as a result of UV exposure (not from tanning, but from the sun) and believe me it is just as bad as having an internal cancer. First there is the biopsy to remove the cancerous skin cells, which involves a scalpel and stitches and leaves scars. Then the full-body MRI (with contrast dye that is injected intravenously) that takes several hours lying perfectly still in a giant capsule that is making ridiculously loud noises the entire time. Then, waiting for the results to know if the cancer spread to other organs. If you are lucky and it didn't, you wait a month and repeat the scan again--every month, for the rest of your life. I have had squamous cell and basal cell carcinoma, the "less dangerous" skin cancers. Now I have a nearly 80% chance of getting melanoma, the deadliest skin cancer. If I get skin cancer again and it metastasizes to other organs, I will have to go through chemotherapy and radiation, perhaps other surgeries to stop it. None of these procedures (the biopsies, MRIs, and if necessary chemo/radiation) are cheap. Even with good insurance, I pay upwards of $2000 a month on healthcare costs to prevent these cancers from returning. Is a twenty dollar tanning bed session really worth it?
Every tan, every burn increases the risk of developing skin cancer exponentially. Always wear sunscreen no matter what your complexion is (that includes darker skinned people too!) every day. There is NO reason to expose yourself to that risk. If you are tempted to lie in the sun or in the bed, remember my experiences with cancer and really consider: are you willing to risk your life for a temporary bit of vanity? Stick to sprays and lotions, you won't regret it. An orange or streaky fake tan can be fixed, an aggressive and deadly cancer can't.

Rebecca, I worked with tanning beds for years I know all the risks and all the pros and cons there are to know. I have used them for years and as long as you use them safely, it's like getting out in the sun it is not worse in any respect.

Rhi K. I'm sorry but there is no such thing as using a tanning bed safely. You are exposing nearly your entire body to UV radiation that is being concentrated by the enclosed surroundings. That is MUCH worse than going out in the sun, especially because most people don't wear any protection in a tanning bed. You are exposing your cells to nuclear radiation and that WILL damage them. Any natural tan is due to that damage. That cell damage is what leads to wrinkles, spots, and cancers.
Ten minutes baking in a tanning bed with no protection is worse than an hour in the sun wearing low-spf sunscreen. In nature, the UV radiation is subject to some scattering due to obstacles in the environment (clouds, moisture in the air, gasses in the atmosphere, etc.). In a tanning bed, 100% of that radiation is being applied to your skin. It isn't healthy, it isn't necessary, and it is downright senseless to exposure yourself to that danger for the sake of temporary vanity.
