I don't think it will turn your gums black but it is defiantly your decision it's your confidence to get them but personally I'm not a fan of piercings...

They can mess with your teeth, especially if you play with them a lot. And they swell when you first get it done -- I got one done and my lip swelled so much that it grew over the back of the stud and I had to push it back through to get it out.

No but they can hurt your gums. Watch to make sure the metal doesn't wear them down because gums will not grow back. I had this problem with one of my lip piercings.

I've had snakebites for 6 years now, it doesn't effect my gums or my teeth. the type of metal is sterling silver.
