Use a clean warm wash cloth and apply soap to the wash cloth. Then gently massage the soapy washcloth to the cold sore. Don't pop it. Let it pop on its own. Then apply camphol phenique right away. It numbs the annoying feeling and keeps more bacteria from getting in. Abreva is great, too but its costly.
