I just box dyed my hair with what should have been a dark ashy blonde, and it's now a red toned medium/dark brown... darker than when I started after I had stripped my hair and done intensive protein restoration treatments.
Anything I can do to lighten it without too much more damage?

Wash your hair. Some should come out.

I bleached mine... It was really damaged at first but I bought a deep conditioner and I would use it in the shower and let it sit while I finish washing and then after the shower I would put a little but on my tips and anywhere else that felt dry or damaged and my hair is really healthy. I bleached my hair maybe 4 weeks ago.

I also trimmed the ends off after I bleached it.

Also what I'm suggesting is just my opinion. I really can't say too much without seeing your hair in person so when you go to Sally's tell them what you've been using what happened, and that you obv have red undertones so you need something that will combat it from pulling yellow&brassy!! They are somewhat experienced in color and the products they sell, so they can look at your hair and help you!! The best deep conditioner you can get for afterwards is the macadamia oil hair masque (from Sally's- I will attach a picture of it below) hope this helps!! Xoxo

Don't bleach it! OMG...that's a horrible idea! Did you use a color remover before color to lighten your hair? The color removers make your hair even worse...Your best bet is to stay dark! Give it a few months, deep condition, and lay off the heat. THEN...the best way to go lighter is by highlighting it a little at a time...over time. I've seen it plenty of times and this is the only way. Also, using a blonde box doesn't guarantee lighter results...color will not lift previous color.
I'm an American Board Certified Haircolorist and have experience in several other areas. Mushy hair from over-processing or bleaching is a total drag...dealing with the darker shade for a while is so much better! I've been there...before cosmetology school everyone gets the itch to be blonde at some point! What a miserable year in terms of hair...save yourself! :)

I don't know who 'Jamie B.' is but she should not be giving advice on chemically altering hair if she's not a professional. Sorry hun, but you can't "recommend" anything just because you tried it on yourself. Everyones situation is different and even a professional can't give a solid opinion without details or seeing it in person. Respect the profession and let those that are properly educated give the advice. If you feel you are that "knowledgeable" or you're interested in being a hairstylist then check into nearby cosmetology schools...until then...leave it to the pros!

And please...don't toy with 30 or 40 volume developer at home! What a disaster, omg some stylists don't even feel comfortable with using it because of what can happen. I have specific times when it is okay, but definitely not on damaged hair!
