I really need great suggestions and ideas on stopping my habit of chewing my nails down. I do it out of bored but I'm tired of the way they look. even wen I paint them nicely it still doesn't work. (plus I love peeling any kind of paint). I chew gum daily to distract myself. but not many things work.

Just do something new which needs all your concentration if you love any kind of art work like sketching, glass painting etc.that would work well, I also had the same habit of chewing and peeling of my nail polish but now I have almost stopped doing it...
Just think of a new hobby and you will forget about your habit...

I draw. I play video games, play with my dog and even cook to distract myself but I subconsciously just keep chewing. I tried acrylic nails but those lasted less than 2weeks.

Oh Nice :) I have the same problem.. I tried putting some special nail treatment that would make you stop chewing... But I honestly think I tasted good...

You can buy special nail paint that tastes disgusting to put you off biting your nails!

Special polish is a really good decision, as it has unpleasant taste. or you can just put on artificial nails for some time. I don't think, you're eager to chew plastic, so couple of weeks - and the bad habit is gone.

I used 2 (and sumtimes still do) chew my nails, but when I go 2, I think about how ugly my nails end up. that usally stops me.

I have recently stopped chewing my nails (as a New Years resolution) and all I did was just tell myself to stop and it kind of...worked...?! Also I started painting my nails about every 2 days so I started out picking nail polish instead of biting them. Now (in march) my nails are just over my finger and I don't peel the polish anymore! Hope this helped a little :)

Also I was chewing my nails since I was about 4! So I was doing it for a very long time! But easily got over the habit.
