For big loose curls I put my hair into two rope braids when it's wet before bed and it has a nice wavy natural curl to them which I love! :)

I have really stubborn hair that makes my curls fall out within minutes so when I started using a wand curler, it was like magic. Curls stayed in for 2 days ( it was an experiment :P) anyways for regular curling irons with clamps make sure to keep it on a moderately low heat unless your hair too is stubborn so I suggest using a heat protectant spray. I usually use CHI cause it works for one and also smells really good. For Non irons like sponge curlers, make sure to put some sort of hair product in them so when you take them out the curls stay in. Btw having curlers in over night is the best option. So to sum it all up use hair products and don't overheat.
