I just turned 16 a few months ago and my face went crazy. I honestly don't know what to do. I started doing DIY face masks and I think that was the pivotal point to my insane acne. In those few months, I did that face mask multiple times, switched face washes, switched face lotions and got a new foundation. This mask had like coco powder, olive oil, coffee grounds, baking soda, and other things that probably aren't so great for your skin. Generally before I had good skin. It would minorly breakout around that time of the month, but it was typically really clear. Well I used the nutrogena shine free foundation with that rice complex along with store brand and really moisture stripping face wash. Well I finally got fed up and went to the on site dermatologist at ulta and she gave me this dermalogica line for oily skin, but my skin is drier than oily. So I used that for a bit, and that irritated it so I went back to my aveeno skin clearing wash which is helping slightly but my break outs are still large and painful and itchy. HELP!

Wow that's crazy... Make sure you use a daily cleanser... Scrub your face, and maybe give in to buying a clarisonic. It could be a reaction to all the skin products. If it gets worse, see a skin care specialist.

I suggest trying to cut back on what you're putting on your skin, and as much as it'll pain you try and stick to the same products for a while because it can take a bit for your skin to get used to a product. I have super sensitive and acne-prone skin and lately I have been using Neutrogena "All-in-1 Acne Control" daily scrub, followed by Garnier "moisture renew refreshing gel-cream". I used to switch face washes all the time and it only broke me out worse and worse ugh!

I cannot stress enough how amazing these are. I got mine at target. Give them at least a week of trial! (they burn but they work) only like $3.

Oh and I forgot to mention, I switched back to my old routine with the same face wash, same lotion, and same powder. I've been drinking a lot more water, but I also have been stressing a TON. Thank you for your responses they are super helpful! <3.

I agree you need to cut back on what you're putting on your skin like Kara said. I have very sensitive skin so I stick to minimum face treatments. Try using a daily acne face wash instead of kits that include different steps. For instance, I use the Clearasil Rapid Action Daily Face Wash. It's not that expensive and you can get it at drugstores and Walmart. Then, use a sensitive oil free daily moisturizer like Olay. I use to think using simpler face treatments don't work, but honestly it was the best decision I've made for my skin. Also, using a Clarsonic brush or and type of scrubbing brush really helps -- but only use it once a day, preferably at night.

If you want, try going the natural or organic route. I know some people do oil cleansing. For me I use Orjene organics coq10 foaming wash. Then a random natural brand I got at Marshall's for moisturizer. Maybe try burt's bee's. Think what could be irritating it, maybe harsh ingredients or an allergic reaction.

I agree, cut down on what you're using. And don't waste your time with acne cleanser. They're never on your face long enough to do anything and they can overdry your face without actually helping anything. I would try Cetaphil. It's gentle and non-irritating. (Or if you really want to splurge get some Purity Made Simple cleanser. Its my favorite, also non-irritating). And then just a plain moisturizer from Cetaphil or CeraVe or anything else that's as simple as possible. I personally love using maracuja oil as a moisturizer. But you can use any other natural oil like olive, coconut, argan, etc.

But I would stay away from any type of acne treatment until your fave doesn't hurt anymore. I think it needs to heal on its own a bit before you add anything harsh like what's in most acne treatments.

Go to the dermatologist. Seems like you have severe acne that needs more help than drugstore products. Prescribed creams for your face and a prescribed antibiotic will really help you. I was around your age when my face freaked out and nothing helped until I saw a dermatologist. Your hormones at your age are just going crazy right now which contributes to the acne :/

I used to have the same problem until I started using Clean and Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment. Its fantastic, it'll take a couple days before you notice a change. For blemishes I use Avons Blemish Clearing Foaming Cleanser. For blackheads I use Avons Blackhead Eliminating Deep Treatment and St. Ives Apricot Scrub. My last suggestion is to check out a product called Perfectly Posh, my sister swears by it and she has had horrible acne forever. The only problem is it gets expensive and you'd have to order it online. I hope this helped and good luck.

Use mario badescu buffering lotion. you put it on after you wash your face. it is for groups of cystic acne. I used to get huge zits when I got my period and now I don't even wear foundation most days!

Laser for acne would get rid of it the quickest, but most people do that at last resort, but this sounds bad enough for use of laser treatment

I used to take antibiotics for my skin and it really really helped. As for the face washing, try to stick to the same few items for a while. If that doesn't work, try the simple range. Very gentle.

Acne washes & things can help clear things up, but I thing your best bet is an antibiotic (Accutane, Tetralysal) or topical gel (Differin, Isotrex). You don't need to see a dermatologist; your usual doc will give you the same prescription & advice for much cheapet. Some doctors may even suggest birth control if they believe it's hormonal, but if you feel uncomfortable with that, Accutane will do the same job.
For skincare: Cetaphil for oily/acne prone skin, basic fragrance free moisturizer, and non-comodegenic makeup. Keep your hands & hair out of your face to avoid spreading oil & bacteria.
If you do start taking Accutane: Get plenty of sleep and drink lots of water. Always carry lip balm around with you, and use eye drops if your eyes feel dry or irritated.
As you can see, I've had a lot of experience with acne. I used to be so embarrassed and self-conscious that I wouldn't even look people in the eye. Don't let that be you! Be confident no matter what. Do what you can to be to kind to your skin, but be patient, and focus on doing things & helping people rather than whether your skin is clear yet or not ;)

No matter what you use if you stress too much about acne it just makes it worse...I used to have really nice skin then I started breaking out a lot so I started stressing and using different things and wasting a lot if money on products that didn't even work until I just gave up and stopped stressing and no lies in a month my face cleared up a lot I just have dark spots now but I'm using dadashie (30$) and its amazing but everyone has different skin types...so just don't stress about it everyone gets acne at some point

Honestly if it's painful and itchy I'd advise going to see your doctor about getting some anti-biotics, they really work (I had them a few years ago) and it's a lot better than keep switching between creams and washes because that can just make it worse =] hope you manage to get rid soon, looks really sore =]

I am like the queen of having horrible skin reactions lol. My recommendation is to NOT put anything on it and do NOT scratch it even though it's itchy. Ice it up to 4 times a day to relieve the itch and redness. Go to your doctor and have the prescribe you a cortisone or steroid cream which you apply twice a day and it should clear up within a week or 2.
