I'm 17 and would like to get into makeup as a fun hobby. What do you suggest? What books should I read? Where should I start?

I would definitely start on Youtube. There are so many talented beauty gurus.

Mooshville is a good place for beginners as she explains a lot of basic stuff.

I'd like to know too :) Liz, YouTube tutorials are always good! Takes practice obviously but I've been starting to gain skills from that. Still a beginner though. Get cheap makeup for practice!

I agree with the YouTube vids :) Tanya Burr and Lisa Eldridge are very talented and provide great makeup looks.
Few people still turn to books, but Bobbi Brown has a great makeup manual, and I'm sure there are a lot of other ones out there. If your school ever has a play, offer to do the makeup!

I found the best way was watching youtubers but I never followed their advice completely I strayed from their routines and experimented on my own and now I can just home up with my own ideas and carry them out

For beginners Lisa Eldridge all the way. She has tones of videos and breaks everything down all the way to covering a zit properly.
