Depending on your skin, sometimes you may not need it.

It kind of depends on your skin. If you have large pores or fine lines that you want to fill in, or you've got oily skin, a primer can help with filling in those problem areas and making foundation stick around longer. I personally never use primer, because I don't find that it makes that big of a difference on my foundation application or longevity. Every persons skin is different though, so you might want want to try and see how you like it!

It depends what type of primer you are talking about..there is primer for your face before you use foundation and for, your eyes before you put on eye shadows. I like to use Ponds Clarant B3 for my face because it really good for any skin type, and it smooth the foundation on your face and I like to use NYX eye primer I have the white, skin tone, and white pearl... all of them are good God Bless Josephine:)

My favorite face primer is Stila (the one with all the color swirls) and my favorite eye primer is urban decay

Yes, what Chanel R. said, at least I've tested it and that's what resulted. Suggestions: face primer - I LOVE Tarte Clean Slate Poreless Primer (your face feels so silky after), and eye primer - Urban Decay Eden eye primer (eyeshadows look brighter and stay longer). By the way, I asked the same question, then ventured to Sephora and the girls there explained a lot about primers, I walked away with a decent amount of samples to try and these products were the best of them. Worth a visit to any makeup counter for a professional opinion :)

Absolutely, It puts a layer in between your skin and your foundation to help keep your pores clear and not clogged, and will also help to minimize their appearance as well as help keep your make up on all day long and add a layer of moisture under your foundation to prevent any flakey-ness or oil spots throughout the day (depending on the primer you use). Personally, everyday I use E.l.f.'s mineral infused serum primer ($6) and it's honestly sooo similar to smashbox's photo finish primer. I also really love the pore filler primer from NYX, and their brightening colored serum primers (for color correction, they come in colors like green, purple, blue, etc)- and if you have oily skin which I don't but NYX's shine killer works really good too and these are all around $8-12. Another really good primer is (and I know this sounds really weird but it really does work, promise) Monistat chaffing relief powder gel (at walmart or any drugstore for around $5), again this stuff is very similar to smashbox's photo finish serum primer, but soo much cheaper and in my opinion works a lot better because it seems to stay on my skin longer and makes my pores look better and all around skin look better- but that's just what works for me! You can also use two different primers and layer them together if you have combiniation skin too- my friend does this bc her skin is really dry in some places and really oily in the t-zone and layering primers really works for her rather than using a combination skin primer, so it is something you'll probably have to play with and figure out what works for your skin! :)

For me, for everyday use primer isn't really necessary. But for special occasions when I need long lasting wear it definitely helps

Smash box photo finish primer is amazing! But that isn't alway in my budget. Right now I'm using Sonia Kashuk's mattifier (target 14.99) as my primer. It minimizes my pores, keeps my makeup looking fresh and prevents my t-zone from getting oily

Ashley, you should really try the Monistat chafing relief gel as a primer, it has the same ingredients that's what's in smashbox's photo finish primer. Also e.l.f.'s mineral infused face serum primer is very similar as well, both are the same serum type feeling but I personally love the Monistat more.

I just bought Revlon Photoready Pore Perfecting Primer. It works well so far. Although, I have had problems applying my foundation with a brush & have to do a bit more blending. It has a different consistency than Smashbox it seems more matte & less silicone. My all time favorite is Laura Geller Spackle when I'm wanting to splurge.
