I dyed my hair brown red/violet or something like that. The swatch was brown with tints of purply red and it was gorgeous. Now that it's done, my hair just looks brown. I am upset because no one even noticed a change when I got home from the salon and I didn't get what I thought I was getting.

when I went in the shower today though, I was a reddish purple color going down the drain.. but it doesn't even look like I have a reddish purple color in my hair.

can someone explain this to me? haha

If your hair was bleached first, then it is possible that the color is showing up really dark as bleached hair can pick up color really well. After a few shampoos it should be fine. Regardless, see what it looks like after a few shampoos and if it still doesn't turn up go back to the salon and get it re-done.

Did they just put the dye over your natural hair color? Depending on how dark your hair is then the red/violet in the dye isn't really going to show up on your hair unless you're in the right light. If it's not what you wanted then go back and speak with the manager or owner.

Okay thank you! @Sara and @Alexis
I'm going to see what it's like after a couple washing. Also, my hair was not bleached first.
I called and talk to the woman. She said that if I want more of a purple I can get crown highlights and put purple over that, so I have more purple through my hair. I think I might do that

Before you do anything make sure you have a consult and time to think about it. The problem with getting purple highlights is that it may give you a streaky look. You want brown hair color that has a purple tinge, not brown with purplish streaks. The stylist is recommending that because it is easier, but you may be unhappy with the result.

I would not wash my hair; the more your wash your hair, the further you get from their work..and they'll say "What did you use on your hair? Why didn't you come back in sooner? and so on...

I would instead book another consultation after speaking to the manager and let them inspect your hair. If there was lift needed, that should have been done initially to whatever level would achieve your desired color; I have had both purple and blue "highlights" in my jet black and it was always evident to the eye. Lighting only varied which degree in which it was evident...and she showed me this by bringing me to the window to demonstrate..or using a secondary lighting source (if it were evening), but the color was always there for the eye to see. That was without question in any of my experiences. I have had color fade with washing a bit, but that's normal. Red, black, pink..these fade and you can limit their fading with cool water. less-frequent washing and great product, but I personally have never had a stylist tell me that I needed to wash my hair to achieve a color that I was shown in a swatch or that we discussed in either image or swatch; I am simply relating my own experiences.

I dislike streaky hair as a whole, and that's just my personal taste... but my own colors always blended beautifully right off the bat and so streaking was not an issue for me, including when I adjusted my blonde with lowlights. I attribute that to my friend's skill and judgment, because I was guided by someone very skilled; I was warned not to do things sometimes or I'd get streaks...or a color couldn't be achieved without damage, etc....so I always let the Pro make the educated call. (She is a Master in both color and styling.)

I personally would advise requesting a Master Colorist consult with you and perform whatever 'correction' they feel is needed. I'd use that consultation to discuss what exactly your finished color will be, because you may end up as Sarah suggests with streaks....and you should enter any alterations knowing if they would suit your tastes. But, in my view, this entire matter is not only about skill, but also level of professionalism in relating how and what your final result would appear.

You paid for a color: she proceeded to attempt that color. It's not that color.
Your second visit should be free of charge. If they cannot achieve the desired color promised initially, then you are owed a refund. Don't let them complicate the issue and blame you in any fashion unless you specifically instructed them to not perform something that would be necessary to achieve what you were shown on the swatch... and they warned you that your results would be not be what you desire.

You're paying for your their skill and consultation You deserve the results you were promised.
I'd never settle with less than excellent when it comes to Professional service..of any kind.
I do hope it all works out and you get your lovely color.

Best of luck!

@Rozberry Thank you so much for all the helpful advice. I am unhappy that they didn't tell me it wouldn't come out like it did on the swatch.. I am going to call this weekend and make another appointment. I am going to tell them I don't want highlights or streaks of any kind.
