This weekend I am putting highlights in one of my friends hair. I'm all into makeup and hair so I know I can do it right but she's African American and I have no experience in the texture of her hair. From what I read, it says when you bleach black hair to blonde it takes multiple layers, which I'm not worried about but I did read that it could make your hair orange if you do it wrong!! And now I'm really scared that I will mess it up. I want to experience every aspect of hair and all the different types and textures and get my name out. Any tips on things I can do to ensure the color doesn't turn orange?? Help!!

It's not necessarily "black" or "African American" hair that'll turn orange, any dark hair you try to take to blonde is going to essentially turn orange. Just be careful of her curls if she's wearing her hair natural, and if not just be careful of damage in general.

In general, using a lower developer and waiting longer is better than using a high developer and trying to get it done quick.

Also if you can grab olaplex it will help a lot with damage no matter what texture her hair is it does take longer for the bleach to process but it helps soooooo much I have curly semi course hair and it's dark and I had highlights with olaplex I'll never do it different I didn't get no damage.

African American hair is also easier to dry out so you definitely wanna moisturize after. Maybe even a coconut oil treatment before hand.
