Okay well I'm really wanting to dye my hair a darker brown all over. But my hair is more than one shade. I haven't dyed my hair in over a year. My hair is like a dirty blonde on top and a light/med brown on bottom. My question is..if I go to Sally's and get the brown I want and dye it, will my whole hair turn out the same color? Like the brown and blonde? Or how can I get it all to be the same colored brown? I'm confused. Lol.

Even though it's been over a year since you colored your hair, there's still no promising that you will get the results you're looking for. To get the best results you're going to want a fresh canvas, otherwise your hair will still be more than one color if you put more hair color on top of what you have going on right now. To remove the hair color you still have, you need to color balance your hair (AKA stripping) there's kits you can buy to do so, or formulas. The process I've always done is, mix equal parts of 10vol developer + lightening powder + clarifying shampoo (I use paul Mitchell Shampoo One). After mixing these together, you lather it in your hair as you would do with shampoo. Let it do its thing in your hair for less than ten minutes and rinse. It's not the healthiest thing for your hair, but neither is any chemical process, even coloring darker. It's always good to color balance first, otherwise you're just building and building more hair color in top of hair color and it won't be pretty in the future. Also keep in mind even though Sally's is a beauty supply store, it is not a distributor meaning mostly all their stuff is still considered box color which you should always stay away from. At the end of the day my best suggestion is to always see a professional. When all is said and done, you'll probably be spending the same amount of money on all those products as you would if you went to a lower scale salon ex super cuts or hair cutters. Their coloring prices start super cheap and keep in mind these stylists have just as much hair knowledge as those working at up scale salons. Sorry for the essay, I've just had hair nightmares to the point of having to cut everything BUT an inch off my hair and it was not pretty. I would hate to see anyone end up in the same situation when it can be prevented! Lol hope this helps. If you have any more questions feel free to email me. Alefexo@gmail.com

It will be darker where the brown is but after a couple of washes it should fade out to the same color.

I would color it first with a semi permanent to even out the color.

I would recommend first filling your hair, use a semi permanent color or toner with red undertones to balance your blonde. If you apply a neutral toned brown on your blonde it will grab ashy and uneven, filling it in first will replace missing undertones and help achieve a uniform color. As it fades the top portion of your hair will fade lighter than your already darker sections but after a couple of applications it won't be an issue. I recommend not using a permanent color in the first place but a demi, there is no reason to lift color when all your wanting is to do deposit.
