Hi beauties I just tried to lighten my hair (which worked) I used an oxidating cream 40 and a light blonde hair dye but when I applied it my scalp was itching so bad and I was starting to lose hair! I freaked out do you guys have an idea of what it would be?

It's still itchy and I don't know how to calm it down.

It sound like you left it in too long. When your lightening your hair you should periodically check your strands and never leave it on longer than the package says. You probably started to chemically burn your scalp causing your hair to fall out too.

Stopping the itching might be hard because it's a chemical burn on your scalp 😞 I would say stay away from styling and products for a little bit until it heals.

@hailey I'm not trying to lighten it that much just my hair was black and I was trying to get a chocolate brown
oh I see why it burned now

Soak your head (and hair) in coconut oil. It's not going to heal it, only time will do that, but it will be soothing. You can try aloe vera gel if you have it laying around.

I've had this happen with a lower level and it was a horrendous experience because I was left with burns on my head & huge chunks of hair missing. I'm not sure why it happened because it was such a low level but it did and I had to deal with the aftermath of growing hair back out. I'd avoid doing much else with your hair for a few days to let yourself heal. Mine took a long time to get back in good shape but that's because I was trying to patch up the problems. Give your hair a break and you'll be alright :)!!

Yes, I agree with everyone else. 40 is way too strong even on dark hair. my hair is naturally black and I used a 30 but now on my roots I only use a 20.

the bleach shouldn't be applied precisely on the roots. then should be applied about half and inch down because bleach expands as it processes anyway.

some bleaches may cause chemical burns even if you use a 20 developer because not many bleaches are "on-scalp" bleaches so getting it on the scalp should be avoided.

I second what Kailey said about Aloe Vera gel. It definitely depends on how fast your body will heal but the aloe should help soothe the burning and itching

It should also be noted, try avoid scratching your head or using a brush too hard on your scalp before bleaching.

you're scraping off skin and even a low developer and on scalp bleach can cause it to burn that way

Use some Benadryl. Like take it at night. It'll help heal it too. I get a dry scalp and sometimes I need to take it at night and stops that itch. No oils help me but Benadryl does.

You could try using a dandruff shampoo it may help. Do though so if it doesn't work please don't blame me

Thank you so much ladies for your help I can't thank you enough! it's still a bit itchy but it's starting to feel a bit better I know for sure that I won't use a 40 level cream anymore
