I have shoulder length hair and I have quite a number of split ends. I want fro trim them myself rather than going to a hair salon. What's the best method to trim them?

Dusting. I dust my hair all the time and it's simple and loses no length. YouTube has several videos on dusting.

You need really sharp salon scissors or you won't have sharp enough blades to cut it off without splintering and causing more split ends. Household scissors aren't sharp enough or blunt enough to nicely cut through hair and not cause more frayed split ends.

I would personally just go to a salon and ask for a trim, they generally do them cheaper if you ask for a trim as opposed to a proper hair cut. There's too much that can go wrong if you don't know what you're doing, and I agree with Alyx. You'd need proper hairdressing scissors, and they aren't cheap.

I agree with Hannah and Alyx, just go to a salon. If you miss any of the split ends or don't cut high enough then you're still going to have them and it's just going to continue to split up the hair shaft.

An easy way for a trim is to simply twist a section of your hair tightly, and all your split ends will stick out in the twist. Take sharp scissors, and just trim those off. Easy peasy

I respectfully disagree with your comment Kathryn, I don't feel that's a way of showing split ends. Surely that will just show the layers in your hair. I've never seen any hairdresser use or recommend that method. Plus again as Alyx said, you would still need proper hairdressing scissors as you wouldn't get a sharp enough chop on the split ends to cut them off or stop your hair from fraying.

I would go to a salon! That way there is such a better chance of things not going wrong. ♡
