So I'm on the look out for a powder foundation for the summer. I have one for the winter I use the Ulta mineral powder foundation and I love it but it doesn't come in a wide range of colors for women of color. I don't plan on buying the foundation until I obviously get darker but does has anyone used this foundation, if so how do you feel about the foundation in general and then shade ranges. if there are any other women of color babies out there that could answer the shade range question for me I'd appreciate it!

if you haven't tried this one what other powder foundations would you recommend. I have oily/ combination skin. I am looking for light/medium coverage

Are you talking about the regular bare minerals that has SPF15? Or is there a new one with a higher SPF?

I've tried the original and the matte one. If those are the ones you mean then
I much prefer the matte one because the formulas was just better overall for my skin type as well as the weather. BTW the loose one works better than the press but
I found the original (loose) one to give a glow but it didn't translate well with oily skin. They both offer good coverage and the colors are okay.
I can only speak as a more medium WOC. I've seen the deeper shades and I believe they do offer a neutral undertone unlike most brands that seem to only have a red or orange undertone which I know WOC with deeper skintones seem to not fit into because they're either too red or too orange.

If you CAN find a shade then I'd definitely get it and get the matte formula. If you cannot find a shade then I'd recommend the MAC Studio Fix powder. It may not have the SPF but it does have more shades, great coverage and works well on oily/combination skin too.

BareMinerals just extended their shade range but only for the original formula and not the matte formula.

The matte would be better for your if you're severely oily but if you're only a little oily or just get oily throughout the day then you should be able to use the original with no problem.

I've never tried any mac products but since they will be coming to Ulta soon I may have to try some 🤔

If you're at Ulta I would get a shade and try it out for a bit.
I like the matte formula but I wasn't crazy about the shade golden medium was pretty much just banana powder in terms of yellow, like a bit too yellow and a tad unrealistic looking if I wanted fuller coverage.
I assume they aren't super great at coming up with shades specifically for WOC because of that but again, I haven't even seen the newer shades I just know they offer three undertones.
They added... 12? New shades and with an overall amount of 30 colors in the whole line I believe

With the MAC studio fix powder they have 48 colors total and I'd say about 18 colors would suit a good amount of richer skinned WOC.
This range has the only powder foundation that matches me.
Only downside is I don't feel they have neutral colors for richer skintones
If you don't have a neutral undertone then they'll definitely have your shade.
I know of other powders that do have higher SPF than the bare minerals but they seem to lack even adequate medium shades

Oh ok thanks I'll look at the Mac powders as well. I've never really considered the Mac brand until now because of its availability to me. I wouldn't say I have a very rich dark skin. I'm about medium dark with a yellow undertone but in the summer I do get a little darker and I feel better about buying from a brand that offers a wide range of shades. and in the summer SPF is important to me. so thanks Aurora S. I'll check that out!!
