So I dyed my hair (which I've been doing my whole life to lighten my ash blonde hair) using L'Oréal Paris Extra Light Blonde 02 -which wasn't my usual choice but I couldn't find the kind I used to use. I used it at the ends of my hair slowly fading as I reach my roots, like I do every time. When I washed it out it was more orange than blonde, but I didn't freak out because I know to use a purple toning shampoo. But after using that twice and even leaving it in, it's still pretty orange toned and not as light as I want it. So I hurried out to the store and I was in a rush so I just grabbed something off the shelves and when I got home I realized I got basically the same thing (L'Oréal Paris extra light Blond) but this time it's 01, not 02. So basically my question is, is that the same thing or is the 01 lighter than the 02? Basically everything on the box is the same except the numbers...

*The girls on the box are different, but the hair color portrayed seems the same

Sometimes there is different packaging for the same dye, but if the number is different the color is too!

I change my hair color almost every month and recently went from medium brown back up to an 8a. Every time I go from dark to light, I strip out the color then lay down a fresh color at the new level, my go to has always been L'Oréal preference 8 1/2 A, (it's a nice jumping off point for highlights) however this time I noticed the box was different and when I laid the new color on it came out very orange and not at all ash. Like I said I do this all the time, I've used this color for 5+ years and never had an issue. I have been looking around and unfortunately it seems as though they've changed their color formula and it's not the same quality product it used to be. My advice is to use a wella t14 toner from Sally's and then next time you lighten, use a wella blond shade of your choice with a violet base and 30 v developer.
