I have dry skin and like Born This Way. But this winter I've had to temporarily switch. I've been laying off my glycolic toner, moisterizing like crazy and masking. I switched to Loreal Lumi Foundation and I don't use a primer. My makeup lasts but my skin sucks the moisture out of every foundation I use. I find primer makes it worse. I'm happy with with the Lumi, but after moisterizing, I apply a coconut balm instead of a primer to keep my skin moisterized before I apply my foundation. At first it seems like my foundation isn't going to set because of the stickiness of the balm...but it does set, because like I said, my skin will start to absorb the moisture. This may not work for you or for anyone else, but it's working for me for the meantime.

Try a sample of the dior star foundation, it is a very forgiving foundation.

Now I haven't tried this myself, but I just got an email from BL about a new becca foundation - The Aqua luminous foundation! They describe it as a drink of water for your skin!
It sounds amazing! And definitely taking this into consideration when I need a new foundation :) And maybe it would be something you would like as well :)

I'm medically dry..like insanely dry..and my absolute favorite is MUFE Face and Body. It is a gel like, water based foundation that provides light to buildable medium coverage. It never evah settles on fine lines or clings to dry patches and pairs well with all and any primers I have found. (I loathe Smashbox primer) There's much better for dry skin. If you want slightly luminous, skin - like foundation, I'd try it. I did try the Lancome and it was lovely, but showed dry patches. I have yet to fond a better foundation for my dry, sensitive skin.

I gave away my mineral veil because it didn't pair well with my skin in winter when I needed to add hydration and to seal in moisture. That's just me personally.

For dry skin, my favorites are Embryolisse Lait-creme Concentrate (mineral oil based), Hourglass No. 28 (rich serum..I'd get a sample), and MAC Strobe cream. If you want one that's water based, Too Faced Hangover is worth getting a sample of as well. I never run out of Embryolisse, but mineral oil tends to not work with acne prone skin so take your skin's habits into consideration before choosing. Try to get samples whenever you can.

What moisturizer, exfoliation and wash do you use? Are you dry around the eyes?

I'd use CeraVe hydrating wash. Gentle and leaves skin so soft. To moisturize, if you are not coconut oil sensitive, CeraVe cream in the jar is amazing for very dry skin (including on the body) It also contains Hyaluronic Acid and Glycerin, which will not only draw moisture, but help skin retain it. It has fatty alcohols, verses drying varieties, and is loaded with ceramides. In my view, the CeraVe line rivals some of the higher end moisturizers. (Their website has a coupon.)
If you want a lotion, CeraVe has several lotions. Their regular moisturizer as well as AM and PM are also favorites with skin repairing ingredients as well as anti-aging benefits. I am never without CeraVe.
My favorite for my eyes is CeraVe's eye cream alternated with Mario Badescu's Hyaluronic Eye Cream. I love the Mario SO much that I often use it around my nose and forehead..any drier areas, including my lids. All of these are affordable options that leave skin supple and hydrated.

Philosophy Purity and Philosophy Microdelivery Wash are also favs. You can get small sizes to try from Sephora. The exfoliating wash is $15 and you need so little that it lasts forever. The Philosophy Purity is $11.00 for 3 oz. and also needs very little product to cleanse without drying skin.

For toning, you want to use something alcohol free and aloe based, such as Thayers or Mario Badescu Seaweed Cleansing Lotion. The cleansing lotion is my favorite of the two.

I'm not sure if you are acne prone, but I always recommend test patching products and reading reviews on Ulta and Sephora to get a feel for products.

I also recommend looking into chemical exfoliation. This will help bring brighter, smoother, softer skin. You'll want to slowly introduce such a product to your skin by applying every 3rd day at night. Olay Pro-x Nightly Purifying Micropeel (AHA) out-performs pricier options. I think Paula's Choice BHA at 1% is also excellent. Olay is my fav if the two and has left my forehead and cheeks flake-free. After I apply and product has dried, I use CeraVe PM over it. I chemically exfoliate with acids about 3 times a week.
You can read more about the Olay here.

I love Shiseido Benefiance Eye Mask for days I need a moisture surge and I'm going out. They are pricy, so it's a splurge item. You can buy a 3 pk for special occasions.
Dr. Jart makes and amazing, hydrating, full face mask. It is $7.50 and again, a splurge and so I save these for special days/ evenings out. Both provide immediate surges of moisture.

Clinique Moisture Surge is supposed to be good, but I've never tried it. I've a sample, but a few members here love it. Again, that's a splurge.

If you decide to try MAC Strobe, you can pick up a travel size. It leaves a luminous moisturizing layer if used to prime, but it can also be mixed into foundation. Although not advertised as a primer, it moisturizes and illuminates which preps skin for smooth make-up application.
The MUFE, again, is buildable to medium and applies like a dream. You can pair it with a concealer to get better coverage. It Cosmetics CC Cream is also dry skin friendly with nice coverage. I'd lay off powder for now outside of the nose. Ms. Jacqueline informs me "By Terry" makes a Hyaluronic Powder for dry gals. I use a fan brush and a light dusting of powder if needed, but it is rare. For undereyes, I find Maybelline Age rewind and NYX HD concealers to be forgiving. My high end choice is tinted Perfekt Eye Perfection Gel. (I'd sample this as it is pricey and not for everyone.)

I hope that helps!

Psst...If you aren't using facial oils, it's time to start! Love my sweet almond oil, argan, Jojoba, apricot, rosehip and evening primrose oils (I alternate, but Sweet Almond is my fav)
You want unrefined, organic oils. Cream blush and tints are my fav for dry cheeks. Tarte, Benetint and Josie Maran Cheek tint are my top 3. Josie's leaves cheeks hydrated and dewy. So if you are a matte fan..stop. ;) Tints work for any look and last forever.

I actually have samples of the new HD here. I used it once and honestly, I don't know why they changed the formula. I preferred the original. It is still a nice foundation, but I could not wear it mid-winter for certain.

As for the stick, I did try it and it is indeed great for dry skin providing beautiful, buildable coverage...BUT there is dry skin and then *severely* dry skin. When you are flaking in large patches (such as the forehead) or skin is so dry that lines are an issue...(winter hydration, medically dry skin, etc...) the creamy stick formula seems to find it's way into fine lines and accentuates patches. This is not to say I don't love it! I think the stick is a buildable full coverage option for dry users, and I will be trying both again in the summer, but they will not work with the level of dry that I experience mid-winter or what I suspect Danica is experiencing.
Cream foundations are not so forgiving around the eyes, in my experience, but that may not be issue for you.

So if you run dry, but not severely dry...ask for a sample of the stick and give it a try. I heard a sales clerk tell a girl she had to try the stick on in the store and couldn't get a sample. ( I did not have this problem with getting a sample myself.)
The finish is lovely and it is long wearing while photographing beautifully.

I personally would not never recommend the regular HD MUFE for severely dry skin.
I think it would be fine on girls who run dry, but don't flake or have dry patches and moisturize thoroughly prior, pairing it with a moisturizing primer.

For severely dry skin, I think the best option is MUFE Face and Body. (I have heard MAC Face and Body is also nice, but have not tried it) The Face and Body leaves skin looking hydrated and is slightly dewy with a hint of luminousity; It is very forgiving and pairs well with higher pigmented concealers if you want fuller coverage in a certain area. It is sweat and water resistant so it is a must for me in summer when the temps rise. I think IT Cosmetics CC Cream is another great option for light to buildable medium for dry skin of any kind. The IT CC contains citrus oils, which for some can be irritating. I have sensitive skin and have not experienced skin reactions. Hope that helps.

Have you tried Philosophy Microdelivery Wash? I use it when I need to remove flakes immediatepy, then wipe with a nubby, damp washcloth. Check for glycerin and Hyaluronic acid in your moisturizing ingredients. If you'd like to use an Oil, try Sweet Almond or Marajuca Oil. You can get Maracuja Oil at Walmart, Vitamin Shoppe, and some Whole Foods for less than $15. All Tarte's formula is Marajuca Oil (Passion Fruit Oil) cut with Vitamin e. Apricot Oil is also fantastic. I like "Life-Flo" brand, but "Now" is also good.
