Okay so I'm Asian, and whenever I try to contour, like no matter how I try to contour whether I get help from the girls at makeup places I can never make my cheekbones and jaw pop. I mean it just looks like I have unnatural color on my face instead of that "shadowy" look. I think it's because my cheekbones are naturally flat so no matter how good the person is at doing the "contour" I can't ever achieve that whole sculpted, defined look. Should I just give up on contouring or is there hope for us girls with "flatter" faces?

Hey I'm asian as well but I don't really have a flat face because I'm 1/2 but you could contpur your cheeks so like do how you normslly contpur but define the cheeks with a shadowy colour if that makes sense

Highlight tends to do that if you don't like that look use strobe cream from mac its a moisturizer you put on under your makeup to give a natural glow to the skin. And to contour find your cheekbone and just underneath place a colour a couple shades darker than your skin tone and apply an amount you feel comfortable with also make sure the colour you contour with is matte to give a natural shadow and has your undertone in it

I am half Asian also. And with a flatter face, you're not going to be able to realistically create that extreme chiseled look. A flatter face will not naturally cast a shadow, so it's going to be hard to fake it without looking obvious. Just don't bring the contour too close to the mouth. It's not usually supposed to be close to the mouth anyway. But even less with a flatter face. Keep the contour on the sides of the face and experiment on how far you bring it down. It's not your fault or your skills that's the problem. It's the media showing a generic way of contouring for the masses. You are special & unique, and your makeup should reflect that and not just "paint by numbers" like everyone on youtube is doing. Hope that helps.

Also, don't bring the highlighter too close to the center of the face, I would say, don't go past the outer edge of your eye. Again, this I'd not cut and dry. These are helpful tips to try help you figure out what looks good on your face. Tweak it as you go along. Again, this is just my opinion.
