Having a good camera is a big start. You want your videos to have good quality. & if possible invest in some professional lighting. Especially if you're doing tutorials or anything like that.

A good camera (I'd recommend a Canon DSLR) as they pick up all the colours and detail in the makeup. You can also faff about with the settings to get the best possible shot and outcome. Film in natural light. Alternatively, a light box and/or ring lighting will work well.
Get good editing software! One I REALLY recommend is Final Cut Pro, it's incredible and easy to use. Makes your videos look really professional. You have to be prepared to invest time and money.
Make sure you use titles which interest, but are accurate and to the point of your video. Youtubers such as Stepanka irritate me because their titles are so far away from the actual point of the video, so make sure your titles ARE to the point. For the thumbnails, either use a screenshot of the video or take a different picture which links to the video.
Have a catchy name, something which people will remember. You don't want anything too long (e.g - ilovemakeupitsmyfavouritethingandihave23maclipsticksand17paletteslolatme01), short and sharp is always best.
Also, see what sells! Look at the videos of the Youtubers and bloggers you aspire to be like and see what are their most popular videos, see what their viewers want to see. Make sure you're accessible on lots of social media so you can connect with lots of people. Don't be afraid to make yourself known.
Find your own gimmick! There's no point being just another makeup 'guru', anyone can be that are there are hundreds, if not thousands of aspiring 'gurus'. Find your USP, your unique selling point and use it until you're blue in the face
