New Series Idea?

I have an idea for a new series on my channel called Use What You Have where I recreate a makeup tutorial using similar products in my own collection.

I know how frustrating it is to watch a tutorial and think "I can't do that" or "I don't have that exact color/shade/etc" so I thought this series would be a great way to show that you CAN recreate the looks that you see with products you already have.

The one thing that's keeping me from green lighting this series is that I don't want people to think I'm blatantly coping another creator's work. I would of course give credit to the original creator and link to their video that I'm using as reference. I just don't want to be considered a copycat or unoriginal or that I'm stealing someone else's work or ideas.

Any thoughts or opinions on this series?

I think that's a great idea, maybe you could avoid the copycat concern by instead of recreating youtuber's videos redoing celebrities makeup looks but e.g. With drugstore products?
In general, I don't think people watching videos would even think you're unoriginal, as your work will be creative just in a different way and very helpful really. I'd be more worried about the youtubers maybe being unhappy, as I'm sure they get paid for promoting certain products and then seeing someone do their look with different products might be a problem, that's just a guess though.

Thanks, Deborah, but I don't really use drugstore makeup and I'm terrible at recreating celebrity makeup looks. As I said, is give credit to the original creator and if they ever had a problem with my videos I'd be happy to work something out with them (:

I think it'd be a fantastic idea Alexis! I often get annoyed because I can't afford the makeup that they use!
I think you're going the right way about it with copyright etc, if you credit the creator and state it's a recreation and not a direct copy or blatant rip-off (which I know you wouldn't do anyway!), you'd be fine :) your YT videos are fab, I'll definitely watch it if you do the series :)

Hey Alexis, I think this is a great idea. I see how the drugstore recreation could be difficult for you. What if you recreated their looks to be more wearable for everyday use. Be inspired by the colors they use or the technique. Some looks these artists do are not for the everyday person or are complicated. Therefore, simplifying their look to make it more "wearable" is an idea. Hope this is helpful. And your right as long as you credit them I can for see it being an issue.
