The typical complaint of winter, dry skin!

I moisturize, exfoliate and all that good stuff...no matter how much or how little I do, I can't seem to get my face to not look flakey when I apply foundation.

Any suggestions? (Sorry ahead of time if this topics been on here a million times)

I was having that trouble with a dry face. What I did was right after I get out of the shower I put on lotion. I like body butter so that's what I use. Then I just let it dry like that. And I kid you not my skin felt amazing after doing that the 2nd time.

Bareminerals skinlongevity vital power infusion serum! And their new moisterizers. You'll be golden! My cheeks are so dry and I've been having a hard time finding something that makes them nice and soft. Let me tell you.. These products do it!!

I'll have to look into those! I havnt had much luck with serums, all the ones I've tried have left me super sticky and greasy and didn't seem to help the flakey looking skin..

It would be easier to advise you if you list all the skin care products you use on your face and your foundation. And also you're skin type in it normal condition.

Hi there, try applying an oil like rose hip oil before you apply foundation. Also, look for a foundation that is oil based and apply it with a wet beauty sponge. That should help!

Care for your skin by using an exfoliator with natural oils - they won't dry out your skin.

Marleen- sorry I forgot those details!

I have dry skin year round, very prone to blackheads-I have lots of them..everywhere..unfortunately..

The exfoliate I've been using was in an ipsy bag (just finished it and the brand escapes me). Since finishing that...I've began using the glamglow youthcleanse, and alternate that with a ponds cleanser. I've been using aveeno moisturizers.

The dryness and appearance has gotten worse with the changing of seasons but (so far) hasn't seemed to get better or worse with changing products.

Sara- I have noticed a wet sponge helps a bit with the appearance of foundation but not completely. I'll have to look into an oil based foundation since I'm not sure if mine are...do you have any suggestions?

I love the Algenist Multi-perfector exfoliator :) it get rids of most of the flakes, bumps and has helped me reducing blackheads. You should try it :)

I've hear that hyluronic acid is veeeery good for dry skin since it delivers a lot of moisture. Algenist has some products with this as is main ingredient

I would definitely try a hydrant, they soak deep into your skin & add moisture from the inside out, unlike a moisturizer which just sets ontop of the skin as a barrier. My two favorites are Mac Moisture Infusion & Chanel Hydra Beauty Micro Serum (: They make the biggest difference

I will look into that, thank you for the suggestion!

I would switch to a balm or oil based cleanser. If your Glamglow has mud in it, it could be contributing to your dryness. Typically muds draw out excess oils and impurities. Right now, you need your natural facial oils. Also keep the exfoliating down to a minimum of 2-3 times a wk. Too much can be dehydrating your skin. Also I suggest using a moisterizer that adds hydration like Clinique Moisture Surge. This will add hydration (water) to your skin and will be absorbed into the skin as opposed to other moisterizers which add heavy oils and ingredients that sit on your skin. Your skin is more than likely suffering from surface dehydration. Oily, combo and dry skin can get dehydrated. Naturally dry skin, either due to genetics or aging is lacking oil. But dehydrated skin is lacking water. You could also have both issues like me. Moisture Surge comes in 3 levels of hydration. Original, Thirsty Relief and Intensive. I'd get some some samples first. Probably the 1st or the 2nd. You could also try a moisterizing cream mask that doesn't harden or peel off. Even if it says it's good for dry skin, stick to the cream masks.

Use rose hip oil under your day moisturiser. At night use sweet almond oil under your night time moisturiser. For the blackheads try the aztec face mask ( amazon)

Mary, I have the same skin as you, dry year round and congested easily. 3 products have changed the game. Sorry they are expensive, but there are cheaper alternatives. To exfoliate, I do only chemical exfoliation. It works way better, doesn't scratch the skin (no irritation, no redness) and works to eat away all blackheads and dead skin cells. I've been mostly using Philosophy Micro Delivery peel. It's quite extreme so I do it about once a month. Olay has a cheap dupe for this one. I've been searching for one that is not strong so I can do it everyday and I was recommended Paula's choice line, but I haven't tried yet.
Second, to hydrate, I've started using serums. It stopped the flakiness completely. I started three years ago with Lancome Genifique, and I've also used Estee Lauder Advanced Night repair which is even better. I don't know of any dupes, but if you don't need the anti aging, try a cheaper hydrating serum?
Lastly, moisturizer. The ONLY moisturizer that stays on my face the whole day and hydrates like hell is Kiehl's Rosa Artica, it's thick like butter. Buy the balm one, not the lightweight one. This is the bomb. It's basically the same as clinique comfort on call, I heard but I never checked, also I'm not sure which is cheaper.
This combination, makes my skin be normal, not dry and no blackheads either. It's still a bit easily congested, maybe because of all these heady stuff I put on, but Paula is going to come to the rescue.
Last but not least. Which cleasner do you use? Can you change to a sulfate free one or a balm cleanser? Not stripping the skin will change the game.
Ask if you have questions, I struggled for years with the same issue.

BTW, I also started introducing oils, but Rosa Artica + oil is too heavy, so I put either one or the other, the best still being the Kiehl's cream.
