Hi ladies!! So I've been hearing the hype about Mac paint pots for a while now and I am debating purchasing one to use as my eyeshadow base. Is it worth it?? Is it a must have?? Does it aid in blending at all?? I just wanna know all about it before I jump in. Oh I am also wondering about the Carli Bybel palette if anyone has any opinions on it please let me know. Thanks so much ladies. Love you guys.

I love MAC Paint pots. I love to use them as shadow bases or on their own as shadows. Most eye shadow bases are too sticky/tacky for my taste. The stickier/tackier the base is, the better adhesion you will get. In my opinion, sometimes shadows bases are best utilized over a shadow primer and only applied to specific areas where you want more of a grab and pop. What I love about the paint pots is the feel and texture of them; they aren't overtly sticky nor do they completely dry down. They have a nice sort of velvety texture to them, and once you lay them down, they stay put. I don't know if I would say that using a paint pot will help you with blending, but if you want something that will even out any discoloration on your lids and keep your shadow in place for hours on end, paint pots are for you. My favorite shades are Painterly and Chilled On Ice. Here's a swatch of both. They are very opaque, and a little goes a long way. The only time I would not use a paint pot as a base is if someone has dry lids. You'll get a lot of bang for your buck with a paint pot.  :)

Just a question Miss Jacqueline :)
How do you apply it? Do you use your fingers or a brush? Also do you recommend setting the paint pot with powder afterward?


And Ashli I adore my Carli Bybel Palette! It's super pigmented and blends really nicely. I use it almost everyday I would totally recommend it.

I'm glad for this tread as well! I've been going back and forth on getting a paint pot for a long time now!

I also have a question, Miss Jacqueline, would you recommend this for hooded eyes? I stay true to my Lorac Behind The Scenes Eye Primer because it doesn't crease on my hooded eyes throughout the day and I'm worried the paint pot might crease

Hi Dana; I have 2 sets of most everything; one for my personal use, and one for my kit. On myself, I just use my pinkie finger to apply them. If I am using more than one color, what I do is lay the colors down with my pinkie finger then blend them out a bit with a brush like MAC's 217. Do you have to set it with a bit of powder? You can, but I don't. I like the texture of the paint pot on the lids without the use of powder, but that's just me.  ;)

I have painterly and I got soft ochre. I loveeee soft ochre... far better than any base I've used and its matte and acts as a concealor. but I don't love painterly because of the shimmer

Hi Alexis; I like the Lorac Behind The Scenes primer as well... very underrated product if you ask me.

I use paint pots on hooded eyes all the time with no problems. They key to no creasing/separating with these is the amount you use. I've seen people just glob it on their eye and that can create problems. I only use 1 dab with my pinkie for the entire eye. If I need or want to build more coverage/color, I do it one pinkie finger at a time in even layers.  ;)

Paint pots are amazing I absolutely can't do shadow without them, my favorite shade is called utterly becoming which was l.e so I use soft ochre now, Taylor gray and stormy pink are also beautiful on there own or under a shadow (:
