I have bad acne, well not bad but it's not good and my makeup always looks cakey because of this. I love makeup but I don't like the cake face.

Try just primer, green concealer, and skin toned concealer, and translucent powder in that order. It does the trick for me without cake face. :)

What makeup do you use Kiara?

One thing I found that helped me out a lot was exfoliating my face, applying a SA lotion to moisturize, then apply primer and green color correct

I use fit me matte and powerless and sometimes the Neutrogena skin clearing foundation. and for primer I use Rimmel stay matte primer

What's your skintype too. Are you leaning more dry or oily?

I'm very oily but mostly on my chin and forehead. I think I have cystic acne because I never had acne in high school and I just developed it about a year or 2 ago

It looks cakey on my chin and forehead and on areas of my cheeks where I have large pores

I consider my skincare to be part of my daily makeup routine; it sets you up for success.

What is your current regimen?

I just started using OXY maximum strength face wash and I use a witch hazel toner and retinol cream for moisturizer

I personally don't care for Oxy products as I find they have a liking for excessive amounts of benzoyl peroxide, but all things considered I've seen worse formulas from them. Witch hazel is a mixed bag from what I've gathered over the years. It can have some antioxidant and anti-inflammatory action on one hand, but can also be too tannic and therefore irritating on the other hand, plus the distillation process is basically guaranteed to leave you with residual alcohol in the finished product that you don't want on your skin.

Retinol can help acne, but I notice you don't mention an SPF product in your routine, which is a critical part of a full acne treatment regimen in my opinion. Sun damage makes pretty much all of your skin issues worse, and retinol, despite being a great ingredient for skin, can make it more sensitive to UV light.

It could be the foundation. I have the matte and poreless and I hate it. I tried it before and didn't like it so I returned it. Repurchased again to test it out again and I feel the same. If you have Sephora near you I'd suggest you get some samples of some foundations. I really like cover fx and its non-comedogenic.

I usually put on an SPF when I do my makeup and I use a bb cream but the SPF in the bb cream is what I rely on. I do need a separate one though. and I just got the naked skin foundation that I'm waiting to try. but I just started developing acne because I've never had it in high school so I'm trying out products now

I find the Maybelline Matte and Poreless foundation looks great when I don't have any texture issues with my skin, but it can look flaky/cakey easily if I'm dry/have a spot that hasn't healed.

I'm sure there are members here who can give you better foundation recommendation tips than I can since it's not a product type I try out a lot, but I firmly believe you can get good results out of most foundations if you get your skin behaving so it provides a good base for the makeup to sit on. I think a skincare discussion would be more appropriate elsewhere as I don't want to derail from your original topic.

With that said, layering foundation on top of BB cream is essentially giving you two layers of coverage from products that may not layer well with each other. If the BB cream is not supplying you with enough coverage for your liking, I'd invest in a regular SPF moisturizer and put your foundation on top of it. The Cover FX drops are also great for mixing with foundations you already have (or your BB cream/moisturizer) to increase coverage in increments to a degree you are satisfied with, rather than having to excessively build up/sheer out a product.

If you don't feel like buying such an expensive product off the bat, I'd instead look at a good concealer (maybelline fit me/superstay better skin and loreal true match/visible lift blur have treated me well) and spot correct blemishes on top of your BB cream to avoid a lot of product all over your face. Try to get in some gentle exfoliation when cleansing with a soft washcloth (you can buy packs of microfiber cloths on amazon) to get off any dead skin, and try to follow up with your skincare/makeup as quickly as possible to lock in moisture.

So do you think I should apply makeup right after I cleanse my face? I think I'm going to go to a dermatologist soon for skincare advice of this OXY stuff doesn't work.

I usually wash my face right after I wake up and eat breakfast get dressed ect. and then I do my makeup last

Right after your skincare. Just give enough time for your SPF to set in, and then go in while you're still fresh with your makeup.

I just got my naked skin foundation in the mail and I freaking love it lol. I tried half of my fave with a powder foundation I got and the other half with just that foundation (but also a primer ) and it looks amazing
