It will be easiest to do it with a curling iron, but I think you could achieve something similar by leaving braids in for a while. Not sure.

Hairstylists can do perms for thick hair in good condition, you can get them more beachy or full on curly hair. The perm is obviously permanent.

A sea salt spray can help! Use that on damp hair and dry with a diffuser. Not sure what texture your hair is naturally but it's worth a try! Otherwise a great way is just to loosely wrap single strands around a hot curling iron and add a texturizing spray or powder to make it more undone. Also make sure you don't always wrap in the same direction and don't overlap it or you'll get ringlets instead of soft waves.
