Derm appointment fail...

So, my skin has been going through a weird change and since I've basically gone from having one type of skin all my life to having a completely different type of skin and I'm getting older, I thought I'd go to a dermatologist to get some help.

Welp... I was just told that I was a great candidate for Botox and that was pretty much it. When I asked about the texture of my skin and the acne I've recently experienced she recommended I see someone in the clinic that could recommend me products that they sell. When I asked about a Retinod, she just dismissed it like "Yes you need it but insurances don't cover it anyway so just see Lisa"

Um, what?!

But I did get a 15% off coupon... Really?!

Does anyone else have a similar experience or ideas how find a Derm?

Hey Meg! I'm so glad I'm not alone. I am so disheartened by this. Pretty much the same thing, I got about 5 minutes, zero questions and basically just pushed towards botox. Then when I wasn't going to spend $500 on something that would last for 3-4 months and not fix my actual skin issues, she pushed me towards seeing someone who I assume is an esthetician, but to recommend the products they sell. I felt like I was at a car dealership. She rudely shoved some samples in my hand, saying this is what I should use without asking about my skin type or even looking at my skin- came home and looked the products up and we're back at the $500 total without the "additional products I needed" but she didn't have samples of. While I understand things cost money, I wonder how many of the clients can just go in and drop 1k on fillers and skincare. Notably, the other hilarious thing other than the coupon was that her office also was filled with samples of Neutrogena and Eucerin which we know is way more affordable. I really appreciate the support because I'm feeling pretty crappy about it all.

I've had a completely different experience with my Derm. Experience would suggest sometimes you have to kiss a few frogs, unfortunately.
I wouldn't lose hope. Sounds like a poor physician to me; Completely dismissive of every concern you brought forth.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to vet a Derm's practice for patient feedback and do research to find out their education/specialties prior to making an appointment.

I have some suggestions to address your concerns and goals that are very effective. If you are interested, feel free to hit up my profile.

So sorry. Don't give up your quest. A good Estie can also prove invaluable.

I've had similar experiences, although not quite as ruffling from a sales point of view, I have felt that sometimes my derm didn't listen to my actual concerns, and just gave me a bunch of stuff to try.

I would say find a new derm! And do some research like Rozberry suggested! A simple way to start is to look up "dermatologists who specialize in acne and texture" that way you eliminate some of the doctors who aren't super familiar with that area. Then definitely read patient feedback if you can find it! I wish you the best of luck :)
