I've been using Kevyn Aucoin's Sculpting powder as a contour for years and it's been the best I could find for my skin. Bit I've never been 100% happy with it. I usually use either another contour powder or a bronzer as a contour transition color. Now, I have had the Nars Contour Blush Powder Duo for a couple of years (Paloma, the one recommended for medium skin). But as it's not ideal as a contour, a little too pink. So when Nars added 2 more shades to their Contour Blush line in a cool, yet more neutral tone, I decided to take the plunge. First impressions....I like it. It's not as gray as Kevyn A. But still has a cool undertone. a little more warmth than Kevyn A, good for my warm olive skintone but not as warm as a bronzer. At a glance, it appears about a 1/2 shade lighter than Kevyn A. And to my eye, It has that familiar subtle sheen that Nars Laguna Bronzer has which I like to slightly offset the look of my very dry skin. I just got in the mail tonight, so this is a first impression, so I can't wait to wear it for the whole day tomorrow. Here are some comparison swatches. From L-to R.
*Nars Laguna
*Kevyn A. Sculpting Powder
*Nars Contour Blush in TALIA
*Nars Contour Blush in PALOMA.

Here's a pic of the duo. I love the lighter shade too. It's called a highlight, but it's probably a little too dark as a highlight for most people people. But it could either a subtle highlight for med-tan skintones (although it's matte) but could also be used as either a contour transition color or even as a shadow transition color.

I wanted to check in with an update. I wore it on Friday but was in a rush, so my contour wasn't blended as well as I wanted it to be. It could have been because I didn't set my foundation thoroughly or because my skin is a little more textured in the contour area. Or maybe the product isn't as blendable as other contours I've used. I didn't wear any makeup today because I was out at the beach today. But will try again tomorrow. But, one positive thing I can tell , is that I definitely prefer the color over the Kevyn A. powder.

Here are some pics of Talia. Sorry for the weird angles, I don't take selfies very often. I tried taking these pics in different lighting and these are the ones that came closest to the true shade although the picture is still making it look a little warmer than it really is. And although the contour looks a little heavy, it's not as heavy in person. Although I probably wear it a tiny bit too dark because I'm trying to blend it into melasma. Which is why I find the Kevyn A. powder a bit too gray. It can make my melasma look even more gray peeking through my foundation. Since Talia is less gray, it doesn't make my melasma look worse. Btw, there is no filter on these pics, but the camera on my phone just makes it look like that. I still felt it was a little hard to blend, but I'm using the same technique and brushes I always use. I'm going to try some other brushes I have tomorrow, but overall, I am extremely happy with this product, so my Kevyn A. will probably go to a friend.

Thanks, I hate to blame the product though, because I have so many issues with my skin and I'm not as skillful as a lot of others when it comes to applying makeup. But like I said, I'm going to keep experimenting with different brushes and techniques. I'm going to try applying the lighter color in the duo first, then apply the darker shade over it, rather than the other way around.

Tried It today again. This time using a mini fan brush to apply a little of the lighter shade, then applying the darker shade. Then blended it a little with a fluffy paddle brush using the thin side part of the brush before applying a little more of the lighter shade again to help blend and fade out the color. Then fluffy brush again. Then I used a a reddish toned bronzer as a blush to add a little color and dimension. Very happy on how it turned out, although it's not perfect. But I am looking forward to getting better and better at applying this product. Just goes to show you that even though you may love a certain brush for a certain job, it's not always going to be the right brush, if you switch products. Here is another pic, using a fan brush and a front view.
