Hey loves,

When using coconut oil as a deep conditioning treatment.. Should I just shampoo before applying the oil or should I shampoo and condition before using the oil?

Or can I use it without using either?

Thank you!

I don't use coconut oil, but I do olive oil treatments on my hair. When I do, I do it before I wash it, and then wash it twice and leave conditioner in for 5 mins or more. Then leave in cond of course. Hope this helps a little bit :)

Unwashed hair and if you can cover it with a towel or plastic shower cap and leave on as long as you can maybe a couple hours or more then do same as Shannie says apply shampoo to dry then if needed wash again with a second shampoo..

I use argan oil and I apply it to dry hair and then leave it on for a long time, if it's a Sunday and I'm not going anywhere I leave it on all day then I shampoo and condition my hair

If you do it before you wash your hair it is no longer a deep conditioner, it's a pre-poo, which in this case it should be. It's an oil - so even though it's awesome when it's IN deep conditioners because of it's qualities, it wouldn't be that awesome after you've washed your hair because you have to apply a generous amount and you'd be a greaseball lol. if you wash your hair after all of it would've been pointless vs. if you do it first so you can continue your washing and conditioning per usual and still deep the benefits. You can use it as a hot oil pre-poo first by applying a generous amount all over your strands. You can warm a little oil up (not hot just warm), make sure it's also getting on your scalp. For even better results you can add a heat cap, plastic bag, or sit under the dryer for 10 minutes. Then wash as usual and condition as usual. I do this once a week btw and it does wonderrrrssss for my curls/coils lol.
