Hey everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with getting services such as waxing, facials, laser, nails, eyelash extensions, etc. at beauty schools or salons that have students. I've been trying to save my money and was curious about how to go about finding a school that charges less to get your service done by a student with an instructor present. my cousin went to school for esthetics and I remember her having to wax her friends and people at the school. I'm very picky and a perfectionist so I wouldnt leave the place unless its done right but I wanted to know if you have any experiences with this sort of thing...

thanks a lot ;D

I'm a student as well and you shouldn't have a problem, all the services done at schools are supervised by the instructor.

There's no guarantee your service will be up to your standards, just like there's no guarantee anywhere else. I'm a licensed esthetician and when I was in school all the girls in my class were really good. However, the other esti class next to us was horrible and their teacher wasn't the best either. I also saw a lot of women leave with horrible hair more often than not sadly. it's just a risk you'll have to take and if you find someone good definitely ask for them the next time. I am also an eyelash extensionist and I highly suggest not going to a school for that. Again, it's a risk and although you could get lucky and find someone good, the training for lash extensions is very in depth and take a a lot of time to get to the point of being good and I feel like students wouldn't be at that point. Our school didn't teach lashes I went to MANY training courses afterwards to become certified & sadly a lot of states don't have many requirements and testing to do lashes or even be an instructor so even with the instructor there you could end up with really bad results causing lash damage. I've seen horrible outcomes from people outside of school doing lashes sadly.

I havent gone to one but I suggest you look at reviews because although most of them are good, I've seen many videos on youtube where they have been recommended to one of the salons yet when she didnt recieve what she wanted, the instructor responded very rudely.

Sorry that probably doesn't make sense^

when the person got another hairstyle than what she wanted originally, she confronted the instructor and she was treated with disrespect.

You can't go into a cosmetology school to a learning student expecting perfection. You are getting these services at deeply discounted prices because they are learning on you, if you want perfection and won't leave till its that way then I think it'd be best to go to an educated and patient stylist. I don't know about other stylist but it's extremely off putting when a client sits in my chair and starts by telling me they are picky. I feel like I'm being set up to fail, and as a student it can rack your nerves and actually make them perform lessor than if that wasn't mentioned. That's just my opinion from experience when I was a learning student though. Remember when you're paying for a service you are not just paying for the products used, your paying for the knowledge and skill of a stylist.

I agree with Kylee 100% with you get what you pay for. I've had so many lash clients come in who paid for lash extensions and ended up with clusters (the 'individual' lashes sold at drugstores like ardell) glued to their lashes with nail or hair glue stacked on top of their natural lashes which takes me about an hour to remove and they end up with no natural lashes afterwards. I had a client last week complain I was too expensive and went somewhere else and this is what she came back with for me to fix because she went somewhere cheaper. However, I've also had people come to me after paying twice what I charge and having just as bad as a result so that rule isn't always true of course but over all you're definitely paying for the licensed professionals expertise, training, time to do the job correctly & proper materials to give you great results.

Thanks for you input. I just wanted to know like past experinces and opinions and stuff. ill look into it!

and Kylee, I didnt mean that I'm picky in that sense, I meant it in the way that people don't speak up sometimes and just leave totally unsatisfied but if I'm not satisfied I would ask the instructor to help or fix. I don't think I say anything rude to professionals but anyway..
it's just like Sarah said, I've been to so-called professionals and they really didnt do good jobs so my thinking was that obviously it would be the same for students but there are definitely girls there who know what they're doing.
