This oil I created using 4 squirts of Jergens Ultra Healing lotion, and 5 squirts of Aveeno Protect and Hydrate lotion different lotions and 1 tbsp of coconut oil. I put the oil in the microwave for 45 and added the ingredients together and mixed, I then drained the coconut oil (there will be a liquid layer on top) and then mixed the rest together.

What do you use this mix for? And how did you come up with the ingredients?

I used a regular whisk and I use the moisturizers regularly and I had a bright idea to mix it with my favorite natural product. It works really well.

But what do you use it for?

Is this a body lotion? I think that was a great idea. I heard you should not heat the oil, because it losses protein.

I thought you asked for what I used, haha.

I use the oil to help my skin tan evenly when I go out in the sun, it also makes my skin shiny and smooth.

It's basically a lotion and an oil combined.

When you heat coconut oil it loses most of the benefits. I don't know the ingredients of the lotion but I know that if you mix certain ingredients they will basically cancel each other out or not work correctly. I wouldn't put it on when you go out in the sun, oil is like a magnet to harmful sun rays and can increase your chances of burns and cancer.

Alyx yeah, I layer on sunscreen anyways because when I tan, I burn and it stays for maybe a day then I look like a fresh-picked orange. I tan/burn easily so I just put on sunscreen after.

Is there any benefit to mixing 2 lotions and heating them? Also what's the point of the coconut oil if you just end up removing it?

When you mix the three together you end up with extra coconut oil anyway no matter how much so you dump it out.

So are you saying when you mix the 3 that a chemical reaction occurs that creates a new product? Because I'm pretty sure that lotions and oils are inert and don't react with each other - they just combine to form a mixture but no chemical reaction is occurring - even heating I wouldn't think would cause a reaction to occur just helps mix the products together in liquid form - I was just curious what benefits you experienced from mixing them.

I tan unevenly, so last year I did this and it helped me tan more evenly. I have a skin condition which looks like freckles but it's more red. It kinda helps them fade when I tan instead of becoming darker. I have no idea why it works but it does.

The coconut oil is attracting the sun. even with sun scream on, I'm not sure how safe that is. if you're worried about uneven tan then go for a self tanner to even out, not coconut oil.

How many times have you tried this? Do you have longer results from heating up the lotions vs. using it in layers?
If you have a tanning oil you like but still want to DIY it, take some time and look at the ingredients on it, n buy the first 3 to customize it. But it's great your wanting to experiment, just be careful.

I used it just about everyday I went into the sun, so maybe 40 some days.

Something about this doesn't sound too good for your skin. Your putting on so much stuff I'm afraid your skin might become damaged as you age.

It might, I guess I'll try something else. I love it but I guess it's.not good for me. Thanks for your help guys.

Why do you have to heat it? I often will mix a lotion with Palmers coconut oil to create an emulsion or sometimes I mix thick balmy body butters with other lotions or oils. With all the chemicals in lotions, you never know if a,certain ingredient will emit something toxic. Kinda of like how plastic bpa bottles emit toxic gases when left in the heat.
