Do you think there's a way to make them matte? A spray or coating of some sort maybe? I probably won't buy them if there's no way to make them matte but I'm willing to buy them just to try if I get some ideas because they are so cheap so it wouldn't be the end of the world if they were ruined.

They look like made of plastic, if so, you can buy spray paint that has a matte finish or even just a sealant in that finish. You can get it in Home Depot :) look for the brand Rust-Oleum.
