I've never really wear primers that much.
I bought the kat von d foundation but throughout the day it cracks on my nose area. where I have my breakouts :/ I just purchased the kat von d primer now that I'm reading more and more reviews, I'm not sure about that primer anymore.
I have very dry skin. so it's hard to find products that actually work well for me

Too Faced Hangover primer is amazing for dry skin! Becca backlight primer is good as well

I have super dry skin and tried them all just about! I am loving Smashbox's Primer Water and their new primer oil is nice too! Embryolisse Lait Cream is amazing but I had a horrible reaction to it; but don't let that discourage you, everyones skin is different! Becca's Backlight looks gorgeous, but its more of a highlighter than a primer for me; it does nothing for my dryness, or helping my makeup last, it just gives me a glow for only a couple of hours. Too Faced Hangover is nice but not really much of a primer either; it gave my glowy looking skin but as the day went on, it made my foundation separate. Hourglass was a good for me but it caused breakouts for me.
I recommend getting the trial sizes or samples of anything you end up trying because everyones skin is different depending on several other factors (like your skincare routine, level of dryness, other products you use like foundation, etc.)

Nude magique blur cream did wonders for my skin left dry after acne treatments, it's really inexpensive and the texture is a lot like benefit porefessional but in my opinion it's better since it doesn't set greasy on the skin so you should maybe give that a go😜

Definitely try out the Smashbox Hydrating Primer as well a their priming oil. Both great for dry skin!
I haven't tried their priming water yet though.
But a good face cream brand is Cerave, works AMAZING for dry skin.

I totally agree with Aurora on the CeraVe; its been a game changer for my dryness. I love their Hydrating Cleanser, Moisturizing Cream, and Night Renewing Cream.
I also bought Smashbox Hydrating Primer today so I haven't used it yet; I've actually used all of the other Smashbox primers in the different colors, but somehow I skipped the hydrating one 😝 its been about 3 years since I used the others so maybe thats why lol. Anyways I hope it works like the water and oil have for me!
@Aurora, I got a travel size of the water about a month ago and thought it was super gimmicky, but picked it up due to its good reviews for dryness. Anyways I spray one spritz all over after I apply regular primer (or I just wear alone depending on what foundation I'm wearing; and it makes me feel so refreshed and dewy without looking greasy. I sometimes spray some on my brushes for clean up concealer and it really helps make my foundation look smoother if I'm having a dryer skin day. Totally will be repurchasing (even though I still have a lot left over in the travel size; which has beed used daily for a month). I've used other sprays similar but I really like this one a lot!

Kelsey, Lisa is right in that Embryolisse is not for acne prone skin or those sensitive to mineral oil. Your best primer will be a great moisturizer that is acne skin friendly, such as the CeraVe Aurora suggested. I am interested in the Nude, Emma mentioned now..lol
I have both the priming water and the oil primer and since you have breakouts, I'd stick with acne friendly oils. The Smashbox water is very nice, but even that alone is not hydrating enough for my skin and so I pair it with a great moisturizer. If you are very dry verses dry, Too Faced just isn't enough in my experience. If I can't use it with my Cover FX drops easily, then I have to pass.
That foundation will only increase your dryness, as long wearing formulas often do. You need a foundation that won't add to your troubles. You could dry adding a drop of an acne friendly oil to your foundation when applying, such as Evening Primrose or Jojoba, and use a great acne-friendly moisturizer as your base. I would return the Kat myself. Kitty might have some suggestions for working with dry skin. She's a dry gal as well. I know MAC's Fix+ is a lifesaver for my own skin.
Ladies, if you'd like, you can make your own full-size primer water for about $9..with refills included in that price. Save your Smashbox bottle. :)

@Lisa S, totally been eyeing the priming water to try it out but for some reason I keep forgetting to. I guess once I step into Sephora or Ulta I get distracted haha.
I'll definitely have to remember to get it though!:)

I have dry skin that sometimes has flaky bits. I make sure I use a good moisturizer and really let that soak in. After I go in with my new holy grail primer it's the PiXi by Petra flawless and pore less primer. This primer is oil free but is surprisingly hydrating. I have tried many popular primers and honestly this is the first one that actually works at holding my makeup in place and not emphasizing flaky dry bits. Another great benefit from this primer is that it hasn't broke me out and seems to help any blemishes I may have. I would defiantly recommend trying this primer

I agree It adds a hydrating mist for freshening up or taking powder down. I'd never see it as a replacement for primer. Very informative, Ladies. :)

Rozberry you use the water charge for refreshing up makeup and taking powder down? Usually that's what the fix spray is for.I just wanted to be sure the two product's are not getting confused with a fix spray like Mac prep n prime fix spray which is different from a water charge spray like Mac water charged and smashbox water primer which by the way isn't a primer :)

Alma, that's understandable.
I use the Smashbox Primer Water for freshening up mid-day when I need need a bit of a lift.
I rarely use powder, but I did the other day and I liked how the smashbox changed the appearance and feel of my make-up slightly....a hint of moisture, but not "dewy". (I spritzed in on a damp sponge and patted my skin.) I bought it initially, but now make my own and have been tweaking it a bit. I find it to be very versatile in how I can use it, but as a primer, it just doesn't fit the bill with my skin. I'm quite fond of it at the moment. Tomorrow? Who knows..lol
I do use and enjoy MAC Fix+ very much if I'm feeling like a need more moisture and dew. I realize MAC's is intended to also "fix" make-up verses the Smashbox, but I like to apply the Primer Water after sometimes for some extra hydration.
Hope that explains it a bit. :)

If you want a primer that's a bit cheaper try the nyx hydra touch primer. It's amazing!!

I have some of the smash box samples from buying products from sephora. I'll give those a go again, is that the only way to get samples? can you buy samples somewhere online?
Apr 3, 2016
Lisa S.
No, you just go find products you like in the store and ask an employee for a sample of; usually 3 is about the max they'll give you at a time, but Sephora is really nice about samples! I ask pretty much every time I go in. Online if you have beauty insider, then you can sometimes use your points if they have something you like (the pic is from the app) it changes all the time though. I also buy the travel sizes to try stuff out (but make sure you check the $ because sometimes its better money wise to get the bigger size).
