If you are combination oily, focus on balancing out the ph of your skin and balancing out your oils for your primer an skincare. I use a mattifier on my t zone and then a regular oil free primer on the rest of my face. Oil production decreased on my face so you might want to try that. Also, try getting a moisturizer that balances out your oils if you are using a very abrasive cleanser or one that is more targeted towards acne. It will help restore moisture back into your skin without increasing oil production.

then my best guess would be to just try and find a primer that can balance out oils. i mean, i use two primers but you can probably find one just for that purpose.

I had the same problem and I really tried everything.
The best things I've tried is washing your face and using your cleansing stuff. I skip out on moisturizer and just use primer (smashbox) let that sit for 5-10 minutes. For foundation I either use makeupforever matte or revelon color stay (which i have mixed with a makeupforever foundation too to get the right color) I apply it with a slightly damp sponge making lots of dots and then blending it all in. Now the BEST thing I've found for setting makeup is makeup forevers translucent setting powder. Since I've used this I no longer even need to apply a coloured powder and I don't have to keep applying powder to absorb the oil all day.

I use one that's for normal skin on my cheeks and then a mattifying one for my tzone. I'm using the givenchy mister matte and the sephora silicone free primer right now.
