I am trying to start my career as a professional makeup artist. I love everything about it. Everytime I see an artist doing photoshoots and runway shows it looks like so much fun and like they are surrounded by great energy. From the outset it looks like a glamorous job. But I want to know, what are the not so glamorous great things about it? The part that isn't shown to the world on Youtube/ TV? Every career has something that's not so great about it, and I want to be able to know the good and the bad with the makeup artistry/beauty/fashion industry, so I know what to expect. Any experiences are welcomed. Thanks.

I love being a makeup artist... I have painted all my life so every face is like a brand new canvas... I love getting people out of their comfort zone... A downer is I live in the south and people are not nearly as receptive but I think I have made a dent in my area and starting to turn it around... Also when people do not use proper skin care and are upset bc foundation does not lay the way it should.. Always talk about skin care.. It is crucial... But it is truly a rewarding career ... You truly need a real passion for it!

Makeup Artistry is hard work but fun & instantaneously rewarding! BUT it takes a lot of time, effort & money… if you're truly passionate it will be worth it.
Now there are pros & cons for every job out there but I feel the only thing you really need to think about is that it will take a long time to break into the industry.
Along the way you will feel unappreciated as people love to & will take advantage! Don't let them & you will do fine :)
Always value your skills, time & products. Do the best job you can and network, network, network! :)

Best wishes,

Thank you. I'll keep those things in mind. @FOQIYA you said to network.... where is a good place to start in addition to here, and possibly find an agency when I'm ready to start?
