Make Up For Beginners! Help!

I really want to learn how to apply my own make up well before the summer starts. I know how to do basic stuff like, eye liner, mascara, and a little bit about eye shadow. I wanna learn about about primers, blending, ect! I was thinking about setting up a consultation at a make up counter at Macy's, has anyone ever done so? If so, did you learn a lot? Also, what are some good makeup kits/ pallets that are good quality and come with al lot of products for me to experiment with?!
