I used to shop at the super cheap stores...then I realized that you get what you pay for. Invariably those clothes would lose the color, lose the fit, or otherwise become damaged within a few washes, not fit me quite right in the first place (sooooo many cases of buyer's remorse) or look cheaply made (because they are) upon closer inspection.
I bought a blouse from New York and Co. for $60 three years ago that I still love to pieces and wear all the time in the spring/summer. So yeah, now I cough up a little more upfront, but my clothes last forever and I love them for a long time. NY&Co., Express, sometimes Banana Republic, Anne Taylor Loft, Black House White Market and J.Crew. Soon I'm going to start investing in some killer classic pieces that will hopefully last a decade. I'd rather buy an LBD for $500 that will last a decade and be perfect than buy one every year for $50 that's mediocre.
My style is sort of menswear/rocker edgy (moto jackets, blazers, button-downs), but I keep it feminine with heels and a buttload of hair.

Stephanie, do you really feel like youll want the same pieces in years to come? I dont think i could ever hold on to a shirt or jeans for more then a couple years.

Yes. I have a style, and that style has been carefully curated and refined over the last decade. I know my body and what looks good on me and what doesn't. Fashion is disposable and should be treated that way...if I want to play into whatever trend, I'll get a funky accessory/bag/pair of shoes/whatever...not an article of clothing that has a brief shelf-life.
