I've been trying to take pictures of my work, but the cameras I am using just aren't capturing the detail. Can someone recommend a camera that is GREAT at capturing color and detail for makeup photos? I just bought a Nikon S800c, and it's going back to Best Buy, it's a point and shoot that does not capture detail well at all. I was thinking of getting a DSLR, but they are so difficult to use are pretty bulky. But im desperate at this point..

Also, is there a photoshopping program anyone can recommend if the camera I chose still doesn't capture as much detail as I would like it to?

Any advice would be great , I've been going around in circles for weeks and I'm almost giving up on starting my makeup career because I can't advertise my work.. :(

Lordy. You do not need a DSLR. Everyone and their cat thinks they can just buy a DSLR and all of a sudden they'll take great pictures. Not so. (sorry if I'm harsh...it's kind of a pet peeve of mine). Point and shoots are *amazing* in comparison to what was going on with 35mm film, for instance.

But. If you don't have proper lighting and no understanding of exposure, white balance and aperture (among other things), your pictures will come out bad. Every time. Go to DPS (it's a digital photography website) and learn the basics. Make yourself a decent lighting setup to take pictures of your makeup...it can be done relatively simply with some DIY methods.
