Bb Cream Vs Foundation

Not sure what the difference is. I currently use a tinted moisturizer and confused if bb cream is more like that or foundation. Please help describe what exactly what bb cream does for your face. Also which is better to use - foundation, tinted moisturizer or bb cream?
