I am currently in the beginning stages of becoming an official Self Taught Makeup Artist. The beginning kind of sucks so I've learned I have done a lot of makeup for friends and family but it seems as if I am losing money and not gaining.. any positive advice?

It's very difficult in the beginning to build up a clientele. Unfortunately, with my experience you have start small. Be willing to take all the jobs for almost nothing. No one wants to pay for makeup ( everyone thinks they're a makeup artist) and you might loose a little money in the beginning. In order to build an impressive portfolio, you need clients. And to get clients you need an impressive portfolio. It's a vicious, competitive business. The only advice I can offer is take every job you can, and practice practice practice. Take good pictures of all of your work. Be patient. No your stuff. Don't give up! Good luck!
