Thinking of giving my hair a bleach bath to achieve a shade or two lighter than the color I am now. I'm just worried about my roots? My natural hair color is dark blonde, and my hair now is maybe a 7 or 8 blonde. Should I re-color my hair before the bleach bath or..? I don't want my roots coming out orange! I've never full out used straight bleach on my hair before, the first time I ever colored my hair I went from a dark blonde to a level 9 blonde with plain box dye.. Also my hair is getting healthier so I think my hair will be fine with a bleach bath. I've almost quit using heat for the past 4 months, got it trimmed, use leave in conditoner and currently have coconut oil in my hair.

I didn't think hilift colors would work on me since my hair has already been colored?

Yes, it'll work on color treated hair.

I have to disagree, doing a bleach bath with 20 volume and then diluting it with half with shampoo will be damaging but I don't think it's any less damaging than highlift used with 40 volume which is what most highlifts recomend. 40 volume even when used with colour will blow open the cuticle. 20 volume when used with bleach and diluted will still open the cuticle but not as much. However a high lift will tone the hair as well as well as lightening it. Where as a bleach bath may not give you the end result you want and you may feel you still have to tone it afterwards.
As far as your roots go I would recomend you colour then to match the rest of you hair first with the same product you used last time and then it's will be easier to achieve the new colour as you are starting with an even base.
Do some research and use the product you're most confidant and comfortable using. At the end of the day they will both give different results but they are also both damaging. However if you want the best results you need to use a method that you know and is safe for you.
