About a month ago, I dyed my hair from medium brown to an auburn/red-brown color. It was from a box (Natural Instincts). I used the Color Refresh packet two weeks later like it said to, but I still feel like my color faded really quickly. I used the color treated conditioner that came with the box, but not shampoo. Could this be why my hair color faded so quickly? Does anyone have tips for prolonging hair color?

Any sort of red will fade a lot quicker than other hair colours try use shampoos that say they are for died hair

Like Penny said, no matter what you do Red color just fades super fast! No using a color-protectant shampoo and conditioner is exactly right! Try to also stay away from blow drying it everyday, heat can cause some color loss. I really like pureology'a color care line, and the Paul Mitchell - Awapui sulfate free line.

Try using Organic shampoos and conditioners or any shampoos without phalates and parabans

I colored my hair red as well but I used loreal's hicolor highlights for dark hair only in magenta, it's been about two weeks and my hair still looks as vibrant as the first day I colored it. What I use are sulfate free shampoo like the coconut milk from organix and a color depositing conditioner that I leave on for about 20 minutes. I wash my hair every 3-4 days and I use cold water only. The color depositing conditioner I use is riveting reds by quantum, You do have to be careful with it because it might stain your clothes and tub but it won't as long as you rinse it well. I bought it at Sally's beauty supply but if you don't have one near you could also get it online :)
