Would micellar water + another cleanser be considered a double cleanse? I was interested in getting a micellar water but I'm not sure if it is considered a cleanser or just a makeup remover.

I use make-up wipes to remove face makeup. For eyes I use baby oil or any oil such a coconut oil. Afterward I use cetaphil daily facial cleanser. Sometimes I use a buffing sponge or facial brush. Since I'm acne prone I exfoliate with baking soda as needed. Afterward I use clean and clear 10% benzoyl cream on any spots and moisturize with cetaphil daily advance lotion. For masks I use the Aztec bentonite clay as a deep treatment mask and sometimes a turmeric honey mask. Those products have really made a dramatic difference in my skin.

Oils by Comedogenicity

Highly comedogenic (Most likely to clog pores)
Cocoa Butter
Olive Oil
Peach Kernel Oil
Squalene*
Soybean Oil
Wheat Germ Oil

Moderately comedogenic

Almond oil
Apricot Kernel Oil
Coconut Oil
Cotton Seed Oil
Grape Seed Oil
Mineral Oil
Peanut Oil
Sesame Oil
Vitamin E Oil

Mildly comedogenic

Avocado Oil
Castor Oil
Safflower Oil
Shea Butter
Sunflower Oil

Non-comedogenic (Least likely to clog pores)

Argan Oil
Hemp Oil
Jojoba Oil
Rosehip Oil
Squalane *

**Squalene and Squalane are both very similar oils, and both are found in human sebum. However, Squalane is non-comedogenic.

Comedogenicity can also depend on the amount of products you apply to your skin. You can have a skin care routine revolving around non-comedogenic ingredients, but heavy products that are non-comedogenic can still cause clogged pores.
For example, if you are using a thick cream moisturizer (not lotion/gel/serum) then you can skip using an oil (or add just a little drop to it.) Comedogenicity varies between each skin type and what other products you are pairing it with.

@Rida S. I have oily skin and I use The Body Shop Chamomile Cleansing Oil and I love it - it completely removes everything. I also love the Superfacialist by Una Brennan Vitamin C oil 😊

Okay! thank you! :) xx

@Rida S. Personally, I'd choose straight up 100% Jojoba oil- mainly because it's non-comedogenic so it won't clog pores. I love that stuff! But wait for Kitty's answer if you can, she's a bit more experienced :) You can also ask her on her profile if she doesn't see this! :)

Which cleansing balms or oils would you guys recommend for oily skin that removes waterproof makeup too? I've been reading good reviews about the body shop camomile balm and oil both!

Great thread!!

Right now I remove makeup with Bioderma, if my mascara is waterproof I follow with Jojoba oil and massage my face while I'm at it, then cleanse with Cetaphil cleanser. When I'm exfoliating, I choose either Neutrogena visibly clear blackhead eliminating SOS cleanser (it's a fine scrub that feels more like a face cream with beads in it rather than a soap- or Garnier 3 in 1 salicylic acid scrub- mud mask.
And sometimes I'll use Aleppo soap, when my skin is extra oily, but I follow with some jojoba oil to replenish my skin afterwards.
My skin is combination: oily on my nose, normal on my forehead and chin and somewhat dry on my cheeks (thankfully not at the moment but it does happen!)

I am curious about the olay 3 point serum, have you noticed any results since using it? I love no7 products, they have a new range out at the moment I might try the nightcream when mine runs out :-)@Charlotte B.

@Rebecca I can't wait to try it, I may sample 2-3 different balms to see which I like best. I'll probabky be picky since being spoiled by Omorvizca... but its a big price tag for a balm unfortunately.

@Erin D When I get to my computer I can provide you with an informative link on what comedogencity is and give you a list of non comedogenic oils. Comedogenic is basicaly just how much it can clog your pores.

At the moment I'm using simple cleanser followed by simple spotless face wash and Simple moisturiser sometimes my no7 one and every night I wash my face properly with the exfoliater sponge and then put olay regenerist 3 point firming serum which is fab!

@Charlotte I must check out the second pic you posted as I'm not a fan of harsh exfoliating sponges, my skin is quite sensitive :/ I'm glad you are loving your skin lately! what products do you use?

I just hate them so much they have no benefit to our skin :/ you should definitely check out clinique take the day off cleansing balm, I've been using it for five months now and have about half left as you only need a small amount. I have a backup of it in my drawer which I bought the day after I first used it! Caroline Hirons is a huge fan of the double cleanse method, she has some good posts on skincare :)

I haven't been able to find Dermalogica around me so far. My local ulta is usually a hot empty mess but I will keep my eyes out for it, the blend of oils sounds absolutely beautiful (Big oil fan).

Have you tried the Dermalogica one? I use half a pump to one full at the most and it is enough for my whole face, ears neck and declotee.

@Sarah Nothing more satisfying as a well cleansed face! Helps products penetrate deeper as well.

I'm walking my dog & sent too soon. The reason I choose this product is it is great for all skin types. I have dry skin but oil attracts oil so it's great for oily skin. It makes my skin feel so hydrated because it contains apricot, olive & kukui oils & vitamin e so it's great for the eye area I use it as an eye makeup remover on its own if I mess up my eye makeup it removes waterproof makeup instantly without leaving anything behind.

@Sarah Almost empitied out my Omorovicza Thermal cleansing balm. I nabbed a sample when Beautylish gave them out and waited quite some time to use it but it feels great. I'm currently browsing right now for a less pricey balm and have my eyes on Cliniques cleansing balm after reading Caroline Hirons review.

I use a clarisonic as well, with my second cleanse. I never use makeup remover wipes, I can't stand the way they make my skin feel and many aren't good for your skin. I double cleanse everyday, not only does the precleanse emulsify and remove oils, makeup, it also removes pollutants from the surface of your skin as well as dirt & debris accumulated throughout the day.

@Rebecca Majority of make up wipes are a death sentence for my skin... high solvent alcohol content, heavily fragranced, and all they do is push make up around.. ouch. I avoid them like the plague.

@Erin Each person does it differently. I seen ladies just massage it on and lay a hot wash cloth over their face, and use it to wipe it off after 15 minutes. Some ladies still follow by double cleansing. Others use steam, there's so many different ways and oil cleansing seems to be unique to everyones skin.

@Charlotte My facialist uses sponges when she cleanses my skin, one similar to the second photo you posted. I have been using my Foreo Luna religously for about a year and its done a great job at reducing my clogged pores tremendously. I find cleansing with tools helpful and more beneficial than just using my hands.

@Jasmin I've been using the Omorvizca cleansing balm or Miceller water (Bioderma) as a first cleanse follow with my cleanser which is Paulas Choice Clear cleanser mixed with Manuka Honey and salt.

I've been doing the double cleansing method forever. I've always used dermalogica precleanse which is my HG. It's one reason I wanted to study dermalogica when I went to school for esthetics. They always had their steps in their facial called double cleanse which uses the pre cleanse then a cleanser for the clients skin type. I remember all the girls in my class hadn't heard of it prior but all continue to use this method and rave about the results. Which precleanse product do you use Kitty?

Apr 17, 2015

Alexis C.

If I'm wearing makeup then I take that off with makeup remover wipes first. I recently got a Clarisonic so I wet my face, apply my cleanser all over, and then use my Clarisonic. I've definitely noticed an improvement in my skin from using the Clarisonic versus manual cleansing.

It's not very gentle but you could always just use it gently. I have been using it for about half a year like 2 or 3 times a week I wet my face and the apply my face wash directly on the the sponge and rub it in circular motions all around the face however for the last two weeks I have been using it everyday and my spots have decreased dramatically! My skin is so much softer and it just looks brighter if that makes sense and more even so now I'm going to keep up that routine and never go back! Haha if you are looking for something less harsh or softer I would use these
They are what I used before the exfoliater sponge from boots they are also really good. But seriously the boots one is just amazing since I've been using it everyday I can't tell you how good I feel about my skin! But I understand some people may find this a bit harsh.
